Is SRTM3 available for you?

[edit]

Hi Sting, I was seeing this page and tried to dwonload SRTM3 database but it looks something is broken. Where can I download it?

Also, tried to load Wikicarto_2.0.qml in QGIS but it doesn't work correctly for me. The version of my QGIS is 3.22.3. Any idea? Rohalamin (talk) 14:12, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

request for permission to use two of your maps in my book

[edit]

I am a professor at Saint Mary’s University in Canada, and I am preparing a book entitled "Scale - Understanding the Environment" to be published by Springer International Publishing AG, Cham.

I was glad to find the high quality maps showing the Tissot indicatrices, which you published on Wikimedia, and I am requesting permission to use in my book two of these maps:

1) World map in a Mercator projection with Tissot's Indicatrices of deformation https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Sting/Gallery:_Maps_of_the_world,_of_seas_and_about_history#/media/File:Tissot_indicatrix_world_map_Mercator_proj.svg

2) World map in a Lambert cylindrical equal-area projection with Tissot's Indicatrices https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Sting/Gallery:_Maps_of_the_world,_of_seas_and_about_history#/media/File:Tissot_indicatrix_world_map_Lambert_cyl_equal-area_proj.svg

We will ensure that full acknowledgment will be given to your maps. Would you kindly grant permission for our original publication, as well as for all revisions or versions, future editions, in any medium, such as its electronic form (offline, online), and for all translations in any foreign language throughout the world?

Thank you very much for your kind assistance.

Des imprécisions dans la carte

[edit]

Bonjour. Пётр Тарасьев (talk) 16:31, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Revision Western Sahara maps

[edit]

There is a new map of the Moroccan Wall that separates the Western Sahara, which is based on aerial images, File:Western sahara territorial control topographic map-en.svg. Can you update the location maps with that data?--Antemister (talk) 21:29, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Per COM:OVERWRITE, as the location maps are used on many wiki projects, they cannot be updated just because someone feels like it. Besides, the map that you're proposing is based on original research that goes against the overwhelming majority of RS (including the UN's), and as such, it shouldn't be used anywhere. Use of Map (Topographical Map of Scotland)

[edit]

Dear Mr Gaba, My friend and I have both been surfing in Scotland for fifty years and we are writing a light-hearted book about this. We would like to use the above map. Please can you let me know if this is OK with you? With thanks, Malcolm Findlay 90.254.64.189 08:42, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mr Findlay. Yes, of course, you are welcome to freely use the map for your book. All that is asked is to credit me as the author with the mention: "© Eric Gaba for Wikimedia Commons" near the image or in the credit section of the book. Best regards.
