Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~. To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg. You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account. There are several tools to upload files. Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful. Made a mistake? Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Green and grey colouring scheme

Hi Mimauri, regarding green and grey orthographic maps such as File:Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (orthographic projection).svg, dark green is used for controlled territory, and light green for claims. Please don't flip them, as it will make all existing captions where the maps are currently used incorrect. Best, Chipmunkdavis (talk) 10:22, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Looks useful. What's the base information you're using? It's unusual to see Somaliland on maps, and to have the Aland Islands so clearly separate from Finland. Aside from that, one thing I note is a lot of the maps with multiple countries keep the white borders, whereas your tool switches to black borders which are difficult to see. @Chipmunkdavis: I'm using en:Natural_Earth v 4.1.0 [1] both for countries and disputed areas. It seems to enforce the "on the ground" policy to define what is a country and what is a disputed area, this could be maybe problematic on wikipedia. Do you have better source shapefile? I put dark green borders following the en:Wikipedia:WikiProject_Maps/Conventions/Orthographic_maps, but I agree that white borders are way more readable, even if they hide smaller islands --Mimauri (talk) 17:12, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

I don't have a better shapefile, but Somaliland is the only significant deviation from the norm I see. Other "on the ground" polities aren't shown, aside from Taiwan, which as an island is easy to handle either way. I think the dark green borders work for maps with just one country, but don't work with multiple bordering countries. Chipmunkdavis (talk) 17:49, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
