Hi Hans!
The new category for promoted QI is necessary and it is probable for promoted VI.
"Mycetozoa" or more general "Other forms of life". Please, help me at free time.

Hi Hans! Commons:Quality images/Recently promoted has one error (in .js) --George Chernilevsky talk 10:57, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes indeed. It should be under the root, not under Animals. We should contact Eusebius again . Lycaon (talk) 11:03, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure you can edit it, but not necessarily upload it over the original. Lycaon (talk) 06:59, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well I haven't seen a rule against it or a creator's explicit request not to, and I don't think it was a very major edit anyway. --IdLoveOne (talk) 07:29, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is not a rule, it is a courtesy, and the owner has requested to me personally. Regards. Lycaon (talk) 07:31, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions ?

[edit]

My turn: suggestions for Commons:Categories for discussion/2010/09/Category:Bird's-eye view ? --Foroa (talk) 16:31, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. Aerial views I would restrict to images taken from planes and satellites (not attached to the ground), bird's eye views I would reserve for earth based imagery (taken with the horizon below the viewers position or not visible because of the angle). Hello Lycaon! May I suggest that you explain your renaming request more precisely? Indeed, I do not see what is the nonsensical part in the file name, according to the file description, everything seems right: scientific name, location, year. I'll be glad to respond positively to your renaming request, but not before you point me to any file name error justifying it. Maybe I'm simply to blind to see something obvious... Greetings, Grand-Duc (talk) 00:10, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The picture was taken in 2005, not 2000. Sampling date is irrelevant here. It is moreover the only image on Commons of this animal (indeed on the internet if I'm correct) and the phrase 'Belgian Continental Shelf' is no longer legally correct as it is now called the 'Belgian part of the North Sea'. Therefore file:Tanaissus lilljeborgi.jpg should suffice IMO. Thanks for the feedback. Lycaon (talk) 00:17, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome! I'll do the renaming now, this explanation is way enough for me. Greetings, Grand-Duc (talk) 00:22, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rename command: help needed

[edit]

Hi Hans,

I was recently given the right of renaming files but am not sure how to do it. Suppose that I want to rename "old image" as "new image" and reflect the change in all pages where the image is used. How and where do I use the following code? -

CommonsDelinker: Replace File:old image with File:new image across all Wikimedia projects. Reason: give reason here

. Regards, Alvesgaspar (talk) 12:02, 24 October 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Hi Joachim. Just add the line you quoted at the bottom of the list on User_talk:CommonsDelinker/commands. An admin will the move it to the User:CommonsDelinker/commands site where a bot will take care of it. Cheers. Lycaon (talk) 12:22, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! -- Alvesgaspar (talk) 12:24, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry Hans, I still have two questions:
  1. What prevents any user of doing what you describe? I've tried as a IP user and it seemed to work;
  2. Why isn't the "move" tab mentioned in Commons:File renaming not visible in the image files (or any other file)? Do I still have to do anything to implement the filemover right?

Thanks, again -- Alvesgaspar (talk) 13:01, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Indeed everybody can do that, but an admin has to scrutinize before moving this request to the page where it will be actually done. So it is the admin's responsibility.
  2. No clue. I haven't requested moving rights, as IMO moving rights without the right to delete the redirects afterwards and use the delinker only lead to confusing and complicates situations.

Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Bee on Yellow Flower.jpg

[edit]

I don't see why you think this image will have no success. Please Explain this to me. Thomas888b (talk) 17:16, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Neither insect nor flower are sufficiently identified. Lycaon (talk) 17:19, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, so do you mean i have to put an arrow pointing towards the bee labeling it as a bee, and the same for a flower? Thomas888b (talk) 17:30, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not really. You should add the species of bumblebee (scientific name) and ditto for the flower. Lycaon (talk) 17:54, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This is an example. Regards. Lycaon (talk) 18:04, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, Okay, I understand now. What if i'm unsure of the species?Thomas888b (talk) 18:12, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You can ask around. User:Alvesgaspar is quite good in bees, User:Wsiegmund knows his plants. I know a few things myself, but have not much time atm. Regards. Lycaon (talk) 18:16, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - Thomas888b (talk) 18:36, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lycaon, could you please explain this edit to me? I see two problems in it: Firstly, it changes a summary of this candidacy by George Chernilevsky. I would expect a signature by yourself if you think that the {{FPC-results-reviewed}} line needs to be corrected. Secondly, I wonder where you see the fifth opposing vote. I see just four. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 20:00, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please count again (properly). Lycaon (talk) 21:20, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(ec)Hope noone minds me commenting here. There are five opposes, the oppose from user:Rmhermen given 20:13, 18 October 2010 (UTC) us without the symbol. I presume that's what has been causing confusion, in the first closure and for AFBorchert now. Best regards, Finn Rindahl (talk) 21:24, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for helping clearing this up. Lycaon (talk) 21:26, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(ec, see below) Thanks, I missed indeed the opposing vote without the symbol. But I would still suggest to update the signature. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 21:56, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Could I suggest you replace George Chernilevsky's signature in the result template with your own? Adambro (talk) 21:54, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
