A deleted file seems to have been re-uploaded today

Hello,

This file: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:M%C3%A9tro_Louis-Blanc,_ligne_7.JPG?uselang=fr has been uploaded today.
If I remember it looks like this one https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:M%C3%A9tro_MF77_%C3%A0_Louis-Blanc.jpg which has been deleted 2 days ago.
It is possible to check that the new uploaded file is a cropped version of the deleted one? If so, I suppose that the new file should be deleted too.
Best Regards. --Poudou99 (talk) 22:03, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

I don't know if English is your first language, but if it isn't, you shouldn't be using a common English/American name like Dan Taylor. I told you at your talk clearly that you need to defend these images at Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by DanMTaylor (click that link please). Reverting me has just wasted my time and yours again. The files are still listed for deletion at Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by DanMTaylor. Just removing the tags does nothing at all. Now I have to put them back again. If you revert me I will block you from editing. No further warnings will be given. INeverCry 04:23, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
I've full protected the files and, in doing so, likely helped you not get yourself blocked. Again, please explain why these files are not copyright violations at Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by DanMTaylor. INeverCry 04:36, 2 April 2015 (UTC)

Odd license template

Hiya INC, I found a user gallery of images with a very restrictive user template. This looks more like someone trying to get something out of the system than one who is offering their images to the public through Commons. What do you think?? Ellin Beltz (talk) 15:50, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

(TPS) Hi Ellin, I'm familiar with CEphoto, Uwe Aranas through their contributions to Featured Pictures and other quality forums. What is it about the template that you think is restrictive? Looks like a standard CC BY-SA-3.0 licence to me. In fact, the request for credit-line is slightly less restrictive than the official licence which does require URLs for the source image and CC licence text, rather than making them optional. Also, many photographers who take professional-level images are asked for re-use where the terms of CC BY-SA cannot be met, or where the publisher would rather not include such a wordy credit-line, or admit they got it free. In such cases, the photographer may agree to drop the requirements either without charge (deserving cause) or for a fee. The Facebook restriction is correct, according to WMF legal. One should only really post one's own photos on Facebook, and Facebook terms are incompatible with the "SA" part of CC BY-SA 3.0. -- Colin (talk) 16:27, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
Dear Ellin Beltz, I am not sure what you want to fabricate against me. I am a chemical engineer and my salary is good enough to make a living without taking any benefits from my photographic work. Therefore, some years ago, I decided to give away my complete work for free in the highest available resolution without any watermarking or hidden agenda. Asking for a simple credit line is nothing special. If you are keen to use a special photo for your facebook profile, ask me friendly and it might be, that I grant your request. --CEphoto, Uwe Aranas (talk) 16:49, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
Probably you failed to read my Photographers Profile. I think it does not look like someone who tries to use Commons for his own benefits, huh? --CEphoto, Uwe Aranas (talk) 17:12, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

@Ellin Beltz: Please refrain in future from such statements. They range under "cybermobbing" and are against COM:AGF. Also, give a notice to the user, you are charging with such assumptions. Your attitude in this case is ignoble to an admin. --CEphoto, Uwe Aranas (talk) 12:43, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

@CEphoto, Uwe Aranas My original note was simple, didn't include your name or any problem other than request for opinion from older admin. There have previously been discussions about restrictive or promotional templates (not saying yours is either), so when I encountered your for the first time, I asked INC for an opinion based on those prior discussions. My comment about "looks more like" is not cybermobbing, nor counter-AGF. Sorry if you're upset, but in prior experience here, the people who get the most upset and accusatory often are missing some simple part of the point. Here it is, asking a question is not the end of the world. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 15:36, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for replying, good to know that you acted in good faith. If any more questions about my work in Commons or Wikipedia occur, please approach me directly to avoid any confusion or bad feelings. Cheers and Happy Easter, --CEphoto, Uwe Aranas (talk) 15:46, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

undeletion request for Wirkungskreis des SWK.png & Wirtschaftlichkeit des SWK.png

Hi INever Cry, I've uploaded the files Wirkungskreis des SWK.png & Wirtschaftlichkeit des SWK.png a few days ago for the following wikipedia article: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sozialer_Wirkungskredit. Could you please tell me why the files got deleted? Lutheraner, the user who requested the deletion told me to contact you as you are a commons-admin. The graphics are created by the author ("Eigene Darstellung" in German) of the paper: http://www.stiftung-nv.de/sites/default/files/impulse_sozialer_wirkungskredit.pdf. The paper and all the graphics used in the paper are distributed under the CreativeCommons-Licence CC BY-NC-SA 3.0: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/de/ You can find this information on the last page of the document: http://www.stiftung-nv.de/sites/default/files/impulse_sozialer_wirkungskredit.pdf Is there a possibility to undelete the two files? Thank you for your help! --Marcelmu (talk) 10:30, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

INeverCry, you indef blocked this user, March 30, block log, reason (Abusing multiple accounts). There is no indication of another account, and I could find no talk page warning of the user on this matter, nor any discussion anywhere, including checkuser requests. The user was active here from May, 2013, and on zh.wiki from January, 2012, and was indef blocked there on March 29 for socking. The user may have edited IP while blocked. I see what would be, on enwiki, inadequate warning on the user's talk page there. However, not our business.

Was this user evading a block here? If the user was using multiple accounts, that could be legitimate under some circumstances. Was there another account? Thanks. --Abd (talk) 14:01, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

The user was blocked for abusing multiple accts, but there was more behind my decision to block both him and the confirmed sock. He used User:Transformers 23 to vote stack in DRs and vote keep on his own uploads. This wouldn't have caused me to block User:TVBS588 indef by itself if he didn't have such a large history of copyvio uploading here, which can be seen by looking at his talk page, and a history of socking on another project. When a serial copyvio uploader doesn't change their behavior after constantly having their uploads deleted and tagged for deletion or speedy deletion, but rather uses a confirmed sock account to abuse the DR process, I see a user who overall is a threat to Commons and not a productive editor. He's been around for a few years steadily uploading copyvios, and this sock was created in mid 2014 and used recently. These 2 accts were technically confirmed, but I can't rule out other socks that may be stale, and I definitely can't rule out the chance of his uploading further copyvios considering his record or further socking. I'm opposed to any unblock of User:TVBS588 at this time. INeverCry 19:28, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for that helpful, detailed response. --Abd (talk) 22:33, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

Michael von Aichberger uploads

Hi INeverCry, after reading the thread on AN/U I've checked the uploads of User:Michael von Aichberger and found that after your removal of the bogus DRs many had been npd-tagged by FastilyClone. I then followed the uploader to his homeproject :de (de:Benutzer:Michael von Aichberger) and found that his earliest edits were in de:Bildpersonalisierung, a topic to which his early image-uploads are also related. So, I am rather sure that the accounts on Commons and :de belong to the same person. An early version of the article on :de had an external link to the company "von Aichberger & Roenneke", which lists a Michael von Aichberger as one of the CEOs and photographers[1], which makes his authorship in high-quality shots at least plausible. As this user is no longer active on Commons, Fastilys npd-tagging equals speedy-deletion. I therefore converted most of the npd-tags into regular DR in order to allow for a discussion, but not with the intend to get them deleted. However, I am less sure about the users authorship in his early uploads "File:AlphaPicture-sample-...jpg" and File:M00023-sample-esp-x.jpg‎. These might eventually be derivatives of images by other users, though I don't have solid evidence for that. --Túrelio (talk) 07:42, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

@Túrelio: This is more than just a Russavia attack on me for blocking his socks. The subject, Valentina Lisitsa, is all over news and social media after the Toronto Symphony cancelled her scheduled performance for political reasons. We need to be very sure this is a copyvio before deleting it, or Commons may be in the news too considering this is used in all her wiki articles. INeverCry 07:50, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
Anyway I just sent a mail to michael@aichberger.de to very the user account. Jee 07:52, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
INeverCry, to make this very clear, I have no intend and currently see not the slightest reason to delete these portrait images. However, as you well know, an uncontested npd results in deletion after 7 days without getting any or much public attention. My DRs are meant as contesting the prior npd-tags. --Túrelio (talk) 07:56, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
I appreciate that Turelio, and I certainly don't doubt you or your motives at all. This was started by Russavia. What you say sounds like a keep vote though. ;) As for public attention, it would get that, because this same image is being used on Twitter, Facebook, news sources, and many websites that focuse on classical music as we speak. INeverCry 08:10, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

Get well soon

I'm sorry to hear that you're retiring again. I told them not to put so much pressure on you. Nevertheless, you were also placing a lot of pressure on yourself. The Great Anti-Sockpuppetry Defender of Commons is a big role for one person to handle. When you return, it might be a good idea to leave the sock-hunting to others. We'll still respect you even if you stop hunting socks. --Michaeldsuarez (talk) 12:13, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

Addendum: I also want to apologize for starting this mess. If I had known that that discussion wouldn't be an one-on-one discussion between you and me, I wouldn't had started it. I didn't realize that so many partisans from all side would enter the discussion. --Michaeldsuarez (talk) 23:28, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
I agree and eventhough I don't agree with everything you do (who does right) I think you do a great job and hope you come back after a break. I know all to well how the pressure's of editing and criticism can become too much but I also know that it's really, really, really hard to stay away when you care about the success of the project which you seem to do. So I hope to see you again soon. :-) Reguyla (talk) 14:58, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
  • Yes. Get well soon. You are 40, I'm 70. We learn to shed stress, or we don't survive. However, for me, the source of stress is always myself. You're now fed-up with Commons and what a horrible place it is. If you don't like it then move on. [note] INeverCry 3 April 2015 --The_Photographer (talk) 17:16, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

note: Block message to biopic/Lycaon changed from reference to this note by Abd (talk) 02:13, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
Yes, this could be ironic. Drop the cudgel, The Photographer. Say something nice.
What I see, looking at that and what it led to, was that INeverCry was burning out, he was showing classic symptoms. He needed a rest, for his health and so he's done exactly the right thing. My hope is that we can make Commons a better place, safer, and that, doing so, it will also become more efficient and far more pleasant. That's going to take some changes. If everyone sits around believing "I was right," it won't happen. We need to be able to let go of that, and start to look at what becomes possible when we actually listen to each other.
If he comes back, I hope he will be pleased at what he finds. Let's make it so. --Abd (talk) 18:30, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
Say nice words does not always help let someone go. We must help our friend to leave the house on fire even if it means saying horrible words used by him. Meanwhile, the sadomasochistic game shall continue. Call sadomasochistic because everyone here knows that this from the beginning, is a battle that we will not win, trolls, confused users and WMF thirsty for money and control, have become this project in an aberrant place. I hope INeverCry can stop mourn and move on, you may have the courage not to look back, if you look back could become stone. BTW, Are you going to unblock biopic/Lycaon? See you soon --The_Photographer (talk) 19:05, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
@The_Photographer: As I've said previously on this talk page, your comments aren't very helpful. Your comments are rather mean-spirited. Your initial post to this thread can be considered "gravedancing". In addition, it would be helpful if you stopped thinking in terms of a "war against the WMF". INeverCry isn't an enemy working for an evil WMF empire. There isn't an evil empire here to fight. --Michaeldsuarez (talk) 23:22, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
(edit conflict with above, response to The Photographer) First of all, INeverCry, in order to unblock biopic, would have to unblock himself. He could still do that, his sysop rights have not yet been removed, they wait a day for that. No, if biopic is to be unblocked, we will have to do it. It's possible, that's my opinion. I'm in touch with the user.
One of the tropes that we need to confront is that anything is the responsibility of a single user. So INeverCry blocked. So? Is he the only user with the tools to handle this? The basic wiki assumption, for administrators and for users, is AGF. That means that we will assume there was a basis for the block. That is why admins should not wheel-war. That is not the same as assuming the block should be maintained. That is, in fact, a very different question. Right now, though, INeverCry has shut off email notification, he won't necessarily see this talk page. He's reactive, see his block log. He will be attempting to not look at Commons at all.
As to a "battle that we will not win," The Photographer, that will be true for you if you believe what you write. You were aware of the block of biopic. What did you do about it? I wasn't aware of the block. Now I am. I have not thoroughly researched it, but if I extrapolate from what I have seen, I would have started by asking INeverCry to unblock (or by suggesting the user ask, if Talk page access is open). That would be a request, not a demand, and I would have asked him to set conditions for unblock, if he wanted, and I'd have attempted to obtain an agreement from biopic. These things are often not difficult to do. From what I've seen, INeverCry was reasonable.
And when someone is not reasonable, then, eventually, if anyone cares, the matter will go to the community. I often anticipate the community, fairly accurately, but not always. That's the way it is. To do all this nondisruptively takes time. Some, instead, like to jump up and down, complain bitterly, blame and attack, demand immediate response, and generally toss their own power in the trash.
On the matter that stirred up the most disruption lately, the community is not in agreement. That's why INeverCry had such a hard time. He was trying to do what he believed was "right," instead of serving consensus and backing off when consensus wasn't with him. That is a formula for burnout. You were on the other side of that conflict. Your version would be that what INeverCry and the WMF were doing was "wrong." And because there is no consensus in your direction either, you don't think it is possible to transform the situation.
Consensus is powerful. A true Commons consensus could turn the WMF around, if it had to. Consensus, however, is not well formed through confrontation. It forms when people are assisted with a civil environment, and become interested in cooperation. That requires understanding on all sides. Which takes, it's known, under difficult conditions, a lot of discussion. And wikis don't like lots of discussion, typically. It isn't "quick."
There are ways to deal with this, but until the problem is more widely understood, wikis will continue down the same old road, with the ruts getting deeper.
We just don't have to go down that road with them. INeverCry was stressed, because of certain beliefs he created or bought. You have what amount to the flip side of those beliefs, equally fantasies. Did they make him happy? Are they making you happy? I don't think so! So what good are they?
Look around Commons. It's obvious what's going on. Yet if you say it unskillfully, you may be attacked. That's quite normal. What creates that is a way of thinking. I'd suggest you are still afflicted with it yourself.
This is what I'd recommend, and it's recommended for INeverCry if he decides to come back. (It's possible he's set it up so that the account INeverCry is toast, but that doesn't matter, he could still come back.) Enjoy this place for the opportunities it presents, do not allow yourself to become attached to outcomes. Develop detachment, m:Eventualism, but not as an idea that there will eventually be value, but that value exists now in what exists, even if it isn't recognized or fully developed.
This is missed about wikis, especially by some administrators. No user is ever obligated to do anything. Maintaining the wiki is a community responsibility, not an individual one. If it has become a burden, that's a klaxon telling you that you have become attached.
Some of us believe we have a responsibility to tell the truth, if we know it or think we know it. We may believe we have an obligation to use the tools, if we have them and think we know what is right. However, that conflicts with the concept that the mop is "no big deal," and that admins are servants of consensus, not of their own opinions.
We easily confuse our own opinions with Truth, and what is Right. It's normal, but does a lot of damage. That is what burned out INeverCry. And it is also what leads you into despair.
The advice could be summarized by Have Fun. --Abd (talk) 23:41, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

Since my mail to the bureaucrats list will probably be leaked anyways I might as well just post it here. It is a reply to a comment by Jkadavoor (talk · contribs) and a reaction to the parting of INeverCry (talk · contribs)

To be honest, I have pondered the same step during the past few weeks.
But apparently, I am at least partially responsible for this (or rather my silence is).
I really don't know what to do. Whenever I speak up against bullies like Fae or Russavia I get very little backup. The conclusion I take is that their behavior is accepted and sanctioned by the community at large, by admins, and by at least one Bureaucrat (no need to tipytoe around the fact that this crat is Odder).
As long as the bot uploading of thousands of US military images is deemed so valuable that antisocial behavior is getting a free pass there is really nothing we can do about this.
Apparently the mindset of "us" against the Foundation is very entrenched, and it seems easy to find at least one point where any given user is dissatisfied with the work of the WMF. Be it the Mediaviewer, the state of Wikimedia Labs and the discontinuation of the Toolserver, be it the Terms of use enforcement. This dissatisfaction can easily be channeled to rally people, even for causes as absurd as defending a known destructive troll like Russavia.
So, Jeevan, and fellow crats, what can we possibly do to save a community that quite obviously doesn't even want to be saved?!

All the best. --Dschwen (talk) 14:45, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

An answer to your question, Dschewen: Trust consensus. If consensus does not exist, or is not apparent, seek it. If there is no consensus for a position, acting from or pushing for that position will always be difficult. When there is consensus, it's easy.
Some of us confuse our own ideas of right and wrong with consensus. We are then set up for stress as we try to work for what is "right" rather than for consensus. It gets especially ugly when we don't trust consensus, so we don't ask.
Instead of seeking consensus, we push our opinions and judgments. There are facts about Russavia, as an example, but these become de-emphasized in favor of judgments of right and wrong, good and evil. The real Russavia disappears, is almost unimportant, instead this becomes a battle between the "trolls" and "freedom." It's an ancient battle. When we lock ourselves into it, we lose sight of our community purpose. We might even "win," but then the "trolls" somehow don't get that we won, and continue their campaign. Or new trolls take their place.
I don't know what the community consensus is on the Russavia issue, and socking is only a part of it. I don't see that any serious attempt has been made to develop a consensus. Mostly, I've seen despair on all sides. Discussions have mostly focused on specific incidents, and Commons has developed an uncivil culture. I'm not highly experienced on Commons, so I have not acted on this matter yet, I have only commented here and there. This is what I know, though: a true Commons consensus will be enforced, one way or another. It will not be stressful. --Abd (talk) 15:43, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
@Abd: thanks for this comment. It is of remarkable clarity! I will try to let it sink in before I conclude my (somewhat interrupted) wikibreak. Cheers --Dschwen (talk) 02:56, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
Dschwen, I'm sure the situation will be different if at least one admin jump in to defend INC at ANU and here while I desperately tried to stop that troll. I agree most of our admins are in sleep mode when that troll is active (UTC+8). Anyway the admin community must decide whether they prefer to flee away fearing this troll or have the courage to defend. Jee 15:13, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
There are other reasons for the lack of "backup" than to assume the "community at large" "accept and sanction" the bullies. Most of the community (who number in hundreds if not thousands of active users) have expressed no opinion and are either ignorant of this issue or don't care to get involved. Their continued activity of taking, uploading, categorising and adding images to Wikipedia can probably instead be regarded as being essentially happy with WMF's projects and to collaborate on developing an encyclopaedia or image database with other users. Don't let a small mob colour your views of what this community is. Having said that, the site demographics are wrong. The noticeboards are heavily weighted with the activity and opinions of under-employed young men. One doesn't need a degree in psychology to figure out how that will breed a culture where bullying is permitted and values distorted. We need to stop reinforcing the idea that this vocal minority who value mass uploads higher than dealing with bullying actually represent the community. -- Colin (talk) 15:31, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
(conflict with below) It is quite obvious that those who dominate central process here, and on enwiki, where I'm most familiar, are not "the community," yet, the community allows these to dominate. Those "under-employed young men" have high energy and may be useful. However, the phrase "adult supervision" is often used. Part of that would be enforcing civility policy, with the goal being civility, not "getting rid of bad users," which is what those young imagine. Wikis have generally created process that empowers the small, reactive group that hangs out around the core.
From my point of view, the "community" is mostly asleep. And it often dislikes being awakened, and will not respond from depth at first, it will react, usually to reject the one poking it.
The problem with enforcing civility is that it has always been, in my experience, mixed up with ideas that incivility is "bad." Actually, it can represent passion, it's not bad. But a meeting chair will still tell an out-of-order member to sit down and shut up. And will exclude the member from the meeting if the member refuses. It is never a "ban," an "indef block." That would be an entirely separate process, and a chair's decision is always appealable to the membership. But usually it is much easier for the member to just shut up and follow process.
There is a great deal that wikis could learn from standard deliberative process, which is highly democratic and efficient. Instead, a decade ago, we believed that we could do it better, all that bureaucratic crap and complicated rules (that we never bothered to understand) were unnecessary. Well?
I would simply start with civility enforcement, which would take a few courageous admins, who would first seek consensus for it. Yes. They would set up *rules.* Having rules does not negate w:WP:IAR, there is always common-law "public policy." But rules create predictability, that's the purpose, not control, per se. Humans will always resist control, it's in the genes. --Abd (talk) 16:01, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

  • BTW, if even mail to crat list will leak, why should I keep this as secret? See what that troll is doing under the caves and decide whether you really prefer him than a good admin like INC:

  • (edit conflict with an admin and revision deletion). There is an IRC conversation placed here, improperly. It demonstrates that Jkadavoor is a reactive user, which I already knew. He has brought off-wiki incivility here, which would violate a sane civility policy. It's completely irrelevant, but he doesn't know that, obviously, and no admin is telling him, and he's not likely to believe me. I've seen many recent examples of incivility; as an immediate example, calling a user a "troll" is uncivil, and there are other examples, but I see no warnings on his talk page, not to mention that there have been no blocks. Bringing in a conversation like that, which we will see without context, is uncivil and could be misleading. Russavia was uncivil, it was not uncommon. Who warned him? When incivility is tolerated, it breeds more and more incivility. I have seen an admin actually libel a user on this site, about an off-wiki event, on the talk page of another admin. Nobody says anything. It's normal, it's accepted.
  • The point is not "bad users" (and the point is not that I'm right about any specific incident, or not). The point is that an uncivil environment can take ordinary humans and set us up to be uncivil, and this propagates. So an example is right here. By not establishing a civil environment, which is a known necessity for the development of true consensus, we maintain Commons as, too often, a toxic environment. This will eventually drive away a user like INeverCry, who was a quite decent servant of the community (even though I advised him not to be the ban enforcer, to let the WMF handle its own bans.) --Abd (talk) 16:37, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

Regarding Thekohser

Sorry to see that you got blocked, but I can see that you weren't very intelligent with your arguments. A few weeks ago, you asked, "if it was about pissing off people at the top only, than why isn't User:Thekohser banned?" I'm not banned on Wikimedia Commons because there is no Wikimedia Foundation-executed ban on me. I'm banned from English Wikipedia, because I upset Jimmy Wales and a few of his minions by telling the truth (and documenting it) about Jimmy Wales. That doesn't (yet) rise to a global ban offense. - Thekohser (talk) 13:20, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Michael. WB!! Can I ask for help?

This is [2] a fun one, every image has "Selim Belmaachi" in the title, most of them are copied from PD-Gov, but the template info is ... um, questionable. I did fix one image which I found PD-Gov but he'd uploaded a thumbnail, and then I saw the rest. Thanks! Ellin Beltz (talk) 01:48, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

Those are a serious mess and basically amount to disruption and a personal attack. The uploader has substituted Selim Belmaachi in the descriptions as well as the file names, in some cases obscuring who the subject actually is. The uploaders' name is different from Selim Belmaachi, though from a Google search Selim Belmaachi looks to be a real person. In the case of <hidden>, the uploader has replaced the actual subject's name, <hidden>, with that of <hidden>. <hidden>. I don't know what issue the uploader has with this person Selim Belmaachi, but with <hidden> the file would have to be renamed without leaving a redirect, the description fixed, and the original revision hidden. I have no idea what any of the French text says. If I were still an admin, I'd block the uploader indefinitely as a VOA and nuke the uploads as the safest course (you can use VisualFileChange and choose "mass deletion of copyright violations or other inappropriate files"). Otherwise, the clean-up job is an obvious hassle, and <hidden> and all the childish replacing of actual names with his and obscuring of authorship. It's your call. My suggestion would take you a few minutes; the clean-up and warning will take you a lot longer than that... INeverCry 02:21, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I agree with INC's assessment and have nuked the lot together with an indefinite block. Green Giant (talk) 08:29, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

Help in finding OTRS ticket number

Hi. I'm Pavanjandhyala and after few volunteers giving a deaf ear to my request at the OTRS noticeboard, i'm approaching you. Did anyone from Behindwoods.com sent a mail to OTRS permitting the usage of this content here? If yes, can you please let me know its OTRS ticket number if any? I requested them permission on 23 March 2015 after watching this file. Or else, if you are an OTRS volunteer, can you tell me whether that ticket is valid only for that particular file or any similar content available in their website? Please do respond. Thank you, Pavanjandhyala (talk) 09:15, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

I'd look for it if I could, but unfortunately I'm not an OTRS member, so I have no access to OTRS tickets or emails. You might want to contact the website and see if anyone there sent an OTRS email. INeverCry 09:27, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
I sent a mail to the website days back and there has been no reply till now. Anyway, thanks for replying. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 10:01, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
You'd probably be better off looking for an alternative to that image if that's the case. INeverCry 10:06, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
How? No free images are available on Flickr and Bollywood Hungama. No Flickr user is replying when i request them to alter the license. Since Behindwoods has been proved successful with this, i am trying for it. I cant test other sources now. Another mistake and i shall be blocked again, which i don't want. The Khariton Slavorossov material is WW1 era, so PD-RusEmpire might cover the pre-1917 stuff if it was published at the time, which is likely was since aviation would've been newsworthy. I would suggest asking one of the native Russian-speaking admins. Most of the other stuff focuses on Rolland Garros, a Frenchman, so perhaps asking Yann or another French-speaking admin would help. A kitten for you!

Thanks for the message! Since I have so many photos, I usually set them as Player Name - Player Team, because it's a logical way for me to organize (so may players are on multiple teams, etc). Happy to adjust if needed... sometimes I find that there aren't Wiki categories that show up for the lesser-known players... I probably have a bit to learn on the category stuff. As a heads up, I have some Habs & Isles photos coming soon! :)

Hi there INeverCry, quick question for you

It's been a while for me and I was just curious if you could provide your 2 cents for me on this... So U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command put up a picture on their facebook (link). Now, I know US Government released stuff is under PD. Would it be a safe assumption to be able to upload this? or no? Thank you. Cheers, -- Dainomite (talk) 00:23, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Not my area of expertise. I'd recommend asking Jameslwoodward or Clindberg. INeverCry 03:10, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
Dainomite, "I know US Government released stuff is under PD" is not correct. Any work created by a US Government employee as part of his official duties is PD. However, the government posts many images that do not meet this requirement and are not PD. In this case, the image is PD only if it was taken by a military photographer. Any other photographer, including a non-photographer member of the military using his own camera, or a journalist, holds a copyright. Since the site does not give credit to anyone, we cannot host it. .     Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 09:55, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Random kittenage

Hope your week just past was wonderful and the upcoming weekend even better! Don't forget the first rule of cat: Sleep a lot! Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 01:29, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Well, I certainly do my share of sleeping, but I don't have much choice with the medications I take.

Speaking of cats, I'm still feeding the mother cat and her sister every day. No visit from the kittens yet. The last ones disappeared, so I may never see them. I have neighbors on all sides who feed all the different feral cats, so one of them may grab up the kittens when they find them. I don't worry about it. I just make sure I keep my two fed.

Anyways, I hope you're ok too. I'm not too bad. I've been doing more reading and tweeting than commons/wiki editing lately. It's nice to switch things up now and then. INeverCry 08:23, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Right now, I mainly upload there--lots of film posters and things like that to be moved here eventually. Hope all's well with you too! :-) We hope (talk) 02:23, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

Wow, that's a hell of a shake-up there! I've been sticking to license reviewing, sorting uncategorized images, and other quiet, enjoyable things myself.

I'm not off Commons much, unless it's to add images to articles on different wikis, but I noticed you over on en a little while ago. I was mostly surprised you had an actual user page! As for me, I'm doing ok. I do some reading, some tweeting, and watch some movies now and then. My knee's a bit off, and it's been shitty out, so I've only been leaving the house for groceries and doctor visits. I'm still breathing though, so there's more right with me than wrong with me according to Jon Kabat-Zinn... INeverCry 07:04, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

I think it is, and I hope to see you back here on a regular basis. INeverCry 23:55, 23 May 2015 (UTC)
Yay!! Just do me one favor... the next time you want to quit, go on vacation to somewhere exotic (like your own backyard) and come back in two weeks. Don't tell us you don't want to do it - just don't do it. Come back when you are "vacated"! I can't wait to see you pass Fastily's number (ha!) and know I'll never get from 13 to 1 so much fun watching someone do it from #2 (tries harder). Meanwhile keep those whiskers tidy and pet the kitties for me and it's all good! HUGS!! Ellin Beltz (talk) 07:33, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
It's funny you recommend my back yard, as that's where all the neighborhood cats go to p___ and s___, including the two I feed. I keep my trash can out there, right aside of my old rusty shed full of pieces of wood, tools, oil cans, black widows, etc, and only go out there on trash day.

The mother cat only lets me pet her occasionally, and her sister never. I don't mind, since I feed them for them and not myself. No sign of the kittens unfortunately.

As for quitting, I still hold that it should be done in the strangest most spontaneous ways possible. Magog has been really creative with his 59 day self-block, and I tip my cap to him. Fastily is a different story. He means business, and I doubt we'll see him again for a long time. I return the HUGS, but you'll have to turn aside your face to avoid the increasingly wild beard... Deletion policy

Could you please provide details of why you deleted the following files this morning, including the identity of the uploader, how these deletions meet Commons:Deletion requests and which deletion notice was used? I note that all files were deleted with the comment "uploader request".

I find these of particular interest as I batch uploaded a large number of images from this source a couple of years ago and these files are on my watchlist, though I am presuming that I was not the uploader as I have not requested deletion.

I note that 3 days ago in your request for sysop rights on the 'crats noticeboard, you stated "So I'm here to request my sysop right back. I'll handle 10,000+ deletions per month with few errors, and I'll stay away from Russavia and stay out of the WMF's way on that." Should these deletions not meet that commitment, then I ask that you undelete the images and put standard deletion notices on the files, in line with standard process, if you feel it appropriate.

Thanks -- (talk) 07:56, 25 May 2015 (UTC)

I deleted these via request by Russavia through Category:Files uploaded by Russavia (delete). The 40 files I deleted were added to the category by him (his confirmed locked socks).

What I meant at BN was that I have no intention of fighting with him by blocking his socks, rolling back his edits, or deleting his new uploads. He himself emailed me a while back about Category:Files uploaded by Russavia (delete), after I had deleted it as an empty category, and he re-created it soon after that email. I did those 40 deletions yesterday because I see no reason to leave them sitting there, and thought it would be uncontroversial since I've deleted files from that category before. If you or Scott think I should leave that category alone as well, I can do that. INeverCry 21:01, 25 May 2015 (UTC)

Yes, I read "I'll stay away from Russavia" as including all Russavia's uploads to Commons. These deletions were out of process, we rarely accept "uploader request" as a rationale for deletion when the images have been hosted for years. Russavia is office banned, so long as he is not actively socking (as far as I am aware, this seems the case at the moment), your commitment could be read as little else. Many Commons contributors have decided that everything Russavia has ever done, and everyone he has ever worked with, is/are controversial. As the time of your most recent quit from Commons, it was deleting Russavia's images out of process that was controversial and remains a cloud over both your quit, as you immediately became unavailable to be held to account to resolve the controversy you created, and your subsequent return of sysop powers without a reconfirmation RFA which otherwise would have been an appropriate point when these issues could have been talked through.
Please undelete these images and if necessary someone can create deletion requests for them. As a matter of good governance, you can avoid creating further controversy through your admin actions by avoiding all Russavia's past work including this category. In my view, having checked a couple of the originals at the source, they include good quality images that are within project scope even if just for illustrative or humorous reuse, making these deletions unsuitable for speedy deletion, let alone out of process deletions which I would expect all administrators to avoid unless there are urgent privacy issues. Had the photographer objected then I would hold a different viewpoint.
I have not discussed these with Russavia and I do not intend to.
P.S. I never use Russavia's real name on Commons, a courtesy I extend to everyone and something that I presume trusted users such as yourself are in tune with.
Thanks -- (talk) 21:25, 25 May 2015 (UTC)
✓ Done I've restored all files. I'll avoid Russavia's uploads completely in future as you suggest to avoid any further controversy. INeverCry 21:51, 25 May 2015 (UTC)

Unnecessaryly deleted

Here are three images that you have deleted without any reason – unfortunately the information given by the requestor was wrong. See my notes there.

Can you please reinstate these images? It's a pitty to have them deleted without any reason.

Better to ask persons who are familiar with the architecture of Albania before deleting them. It seems that User:Glorious 93 has not enough knowledge for substantial deletion requests. --Albinfo (talk) 17:38, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Only a small number of admins here are willing to deal with deletions. This means we don't have time to investigate every request. If I don't see keep votes with good rationales, I usually close a deletion request as delete. It's safer for Commons, in case the photo is a copyvio, which it usually is, and if not, the photo can be easily restored. I think from now on though, I'm going to do FoP deletions only when the necessary author info is present. When I do FoP nominations myself, I always find and include this info.

I've restored the first two since the author died in 1941 which is 70+ years since death. What's the author's death date for the other building? It may be best to take any further cases to COM:UDEL where people have the time to find all the needed author info, or you can post the image names here with the author name and date of death. Could you please undelete and convert to a DR? Has this not been speedy deleted so quickly, I would have done this myself. There are many language variations of this material on Commons and our contact at SuSanA may be able to confirm how the image was donated, as it seems to have been created for their project as part of the Alliance. -- (talk) 10:31, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

I guess they're going off of the note written on the photo itself? A better source needs to be found, which is a serious challenge, and perhaps what we call a "wild goose chase". The file is in use on nl.wiki in their decapitation article which isn't terribly problematic; the ru.wiki uses include a user talk archive, a DYK archive from a 2011 entry, and an article talk page, so no pressing issue there. INeverCry 07:40, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
I'm sorry but the case of UK and RU WPs is different. Both of them use the file in article space and my rm edit thereat has not been confirmed since many days, keeping the files in those articles. --E4024 (talk) 07:59, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
You'd have to find admins or people with the editor right on both projects to check edits. I myself am autopatrolled on both, so my edits usually go through right away, but sometimes I see articles with a lot of unchecked edits. I've seen some writer articles on ru.wiki with pending edits that're two or three years old. INeverCry 18:52, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
I am going to cry then. --E4024 (talk) 12:12, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

hello. i found that you deleted the file Bandera_de_la_ciudad_de_Gualeguaychu.jpg because it had no Licensing, i want to tell you that the flag is under public domain and CANT be copyrighted.

that file need to be undeleted and wear this licenses

{{PD-AR-Gov}} {{Insignia}}

wich are: {{PD-AR-Gov}}
{{Insignia}}

as you can see is not just on public domain but also CANT be included as subject to copyright.

I understand that the file might have missing the apropiate licences. and for that was the right desition to remove it from commons, but if you can help me to restore it. the flag creator is: Francisco Melchiori (“Yaguarisito”) who competed with the flag and won, so the flag is now the official gualeguaychú flag since the legislative authority of gualeguaychú aproved it. and since that by the lay 11.723 the flag is not included as subject to copyright, and since is a image regulated by a edict of a government is also public domain on the US.

I dont know wich details did the uploader put on the description when uploading the file. (those may be subject to review/change) but the flag per se should be allowed to be at commons.

i think i didnt miss any info, so i hope you can help us to recover that file. thank you in advance. --WiZaRd SaiLoR (talk) 03:28, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

Unblocking question

Hi. I was recently contacted by user Philip Folkesson who requested that I unblock him. he expressed regrets and explained that this occurred early in his wiki experience. He has since become a productive member and even an admin on sv.wp. Since he was blocked from editing his own user talk page he couldn't request the unblock directly. As the blocking admin I just wanted to check with you first before unblocking him. With SUL renamings the history is a bit confusing but the original discussions/blocks were this and this. Cheers /Lokal_Profil 09:58, 5 June 2015 (UTC)

Please restore "Naturschutzgebiet" categories

Hi, you've just deleted 30 empty categories of nature reserves ("Naturschutzgebiet") in Germany. Most probably these were part of a coherent and complete system of categories for all the nature reserves in Baden-Württemberg or other regions of Germany. It was created for WLE but is still useful regardless of the competition, the more so because there are links from de.wp pages to these categories. Please restore the categories' state before the deletion requests. A lot of work has gone into categorization, links and templates. Also, please make sure that no "empty" (not really!) Naturschutzgebiet category gets deleted in the future. --Sitacuisses (talk) 06:57, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

These categories were all created at least one month ago, and never populated. I'm going to decline restoring them. I don't see the sense in restoring 30 or more empty categories with no specific indication of when or if they'll be populated. I would suggest taking this request to COM:UDEL. The full list of deleted categories can be found in my deletion log. INeverCry 21:04, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
This is a very short-sighted decision that, in my opion, deserves to be treated as vandalism. Lots of these formerly empty categories were filled during the last weeks, several photographers spent their time to take pictures of nature reserves with empty categories. Now INeverCry steps in to put an end to a collective project. You should be ashamed of yourself. Not to mention the time and effort spent to find out and correct the local categories, and the proper external links for the nature reserves. --Sitacuisses (talk) 03:41, 10 June 2015 (UTC) Thanks for your time-wasting nonsense. Film trailer problem

Have a look at Category:Something for the Boys (film). I've sent the 3 B&W photos to DR because the film is still under copyright-you can see the details on the DR pages. As for the 7 screenshots, the uploader's source is at YouTube; neither IMDB nor TCM have copies of the trailer on their websites. If you check the link and look to the right, you'll see the entire film has been uploaded there. Since it's still under copyright, either YT hasn't discovered the vio or the copyright information was removed by the YT member prior to upload.

I'm dubious about whether the trailer had no copyright because I've seen ones uploaded to places like Internet Archive which had no notice, but when you viewed copies of the trailer at IMDB and TCM, both copies there had notices in exactly the same spots. Where do we go from here? Thanks! We hope (talk) 17:06, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

The YouTube uploader had to have gotten the trailer from somewhere. Is there any way or place to find an original copy? INeverCry 20:19, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
The places that usually have original trailers are IMDB and TCM. Since home video and cable, the old trailers are sometimes used for promotion of a video release or airing of a film. Some of the trailers are "recycled" like this and some are modified to tell people when they can get the film on DVD, etc. A while back, I needed to check on some screenshots we had here for an en:WP FLC. There was only one place to view it (I think it was on YT) and when I did, you could see that the trailer had been redone/altered as it promoted the film's DVD release. If you view the trailer for this on YT, it looks like something has been added to the last portion of it. Just when you think it's done, the clock says there's about a minute more to go and you get what may be another trailer for the film. We hope (talk) 20:32, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
A little more looking. DVD "Only problem I had is in the EXTRA FEATURES: The "STILL GALLERY" feature in my copy doesn't allow my access to it...used two different DVD players and both had the same problem. The Film, Scenes, Trailer, and the SUPERB DOCUMENTARY are no problem." "The print of the film is superb and the extras excellent including production and marketing stills and the original trailer." From Amazon customer reviews of the DVD. We hope (talk) 21:24, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
@We hope: Unrelated, but check this out: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Danishefsky endiine is.svg; tell me if that comment I answered "huh?" to isn't laughably confusing? I got a chuckle out of it. INeverCry 01:12, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
Wow-makes me feel like I should have read the book before seeing the movie! :-D We hope (talk) 01:57, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
