Ei!

[edit]

-- Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton m 19:50, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton hahaha já te respondi lá, hum! u.u E, obrigada, já salvei as fotos.
Quanto ao nomes dos animais tudo... Eu não sei nenhum! hahah Os pássaros, eu consigo achar naquele folheto, então tudo bem. As serpentes, borboletas, aranhas e abelhas, podemos usar aquelas categorias: Unidentified Serpentes, Unidentified Lepidoptera etc, para ver se as pessoas identificam e tal. Também podemos aproveitar para usar as categorias Snakes at Instituto Butantan e Events at Instituto Butantan. :)

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2017 is open!

[edit]

You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2017 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in R2.

Dear GiFontenelle,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2017 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2017) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.

In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.

Round 2 will end on 22 July 2018, 23:59 UTC.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 11:32, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

Black African descent in art

[edit]

You created in 2018 Category:Black-colored people in art. But there's already a Category:People of Black African descent in art created in 2016. Do you think your category is useful ? Chris93 (talk) 16:23, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Chris93, I haven’t seen that category. My mistake! Thank you for noticing and letting me know. Since the other category is older and it follows the main category’s name, I think we should move the images that are in “my category” to that other one.
Meanwhile, I think we should keep my category because it might make sense with the subcategory that is already there (Black-figure pottery), for people who are depicted with black color (and not black people as the descendants).
What do you think? :) --GiFontenelle (talk) 21:34, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please be mindful of the varieties of "blackness". Black-colored means literally "black colored", so anyone who is colored black (as opposed to naturally brown-skinned). Brown-skinned people are not necessarily of "Black African" descent. Some black people do not consider themselves to have African roots. World's Lamest Critic (talk) 20:35, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to have placed some images of white people in blackface makeup in Category:People of Black African descent. These are neither black people nor people of Black African descent. Please be more careful. World's Lamest Critic (talk) 20:35, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, World's Lamest Critic! I’m aware of that distinction. Meanwhile, it might be difficult to identify with precision every single case. If the person consider himself (or herself) as African black or not, I mean. In the universe of art this is difficult, mainly because people depicted might not be alive anymore or we might not be certain of their exact provenance/descendance.
Also, there’s a language aspect to consider here. This aspect is also complicated, on Commons, because the main language is english. In my natural language, for exemple, that distinction is treated in a different way (difficult to explain here) and most paintings I moved to that category are from my country and are treated and kept in our GLAM with the identification we received from the museum they are located. They are all identified as Black African.
But if you think there’s a mistake somewhere I haven’t noticed, I apologize. And, also, I ask you to help me identify those mistakes, either pointing them out to me or changing it yourself.
If you think the change I made on the categories was not appropriate, feel free to change it, as well. We can work to make it better! :)
The blackface aspect you pointed it out, I haven’t noticed before. My mistake, thank you fot pointing it out! Either way, it might be appropriate to leave in that category as well, because it is depicting a black character, even tho the actor was white. Maybe the character’s aspect here matter the most…? I'm not sure and I understand it is a "gray area" we dealing with here. So, what do you think?
Thank you for the comments! :) --GiFontenelle (talk) 21:34, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The images are depictions of white people made up to look black. Although the character of Othello may be black, these are images made to show the (white) actors, so adding them would not be appropriate. As to whether black Brazilians consider themselves to be of Black African descent, I don't feel qualified to offer an opinion. Thanks. World's Lamest Critic (talk) 22:40, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
File:Ubatuba, Acervo do Museu Paulista da US.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

PLEASE STOP adding images to this. You don't seem to have ANY IDEA what it is for! Thanks, Johnbod (talk) 19:06, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Johnbod. Sorry for that mistake, I didn't notice. Won't happen again. Other than that, no need to be rude, use all caps letters and say that I have “any idea”. If I’m making a mistake, then gently explain what is happening and suggest an edit. Thanks.--GiFontenelle (talk) 14:26, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, but it is pretty annoying to have to remove some 700 completely wrong items from a category. Generally, I noticed your categorization was pretty poor, with the right categories very often missing, and wrong ones typically there. Unfortunately, this is very typical of those doing very large uploads, and causes vast amounts of damage to Commons. These days, the number of mass-uploads is so large that you can't expect the community to sort the problems out. Being able to record a vast number of uploads for your project may look like good self-justification, but if no one can find them (because they are not in the right categories) and other (wrong) categories are made virtually useless by irrelevant clutter, then in reality there may be no net gain to Commons or the community. I had two (paid) roles as Wikipedian in residence, totalling some 18 months, but I'd think I only uploaded maybe 300 images between the two. But a very high proportion (way over 50%) of these are used in WP articles and elsewhere. Johnbod (talk) 17:00, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There's no excuse for being unexpectedly rude with someone like that, Johnbod.
“the number of mass-uploads is so large that you can't expect the community to sort the problems out.”
  1. It’s a shame if you think that a lot of uploads to Commons is a bad thing and not a mind-blowing-amazing thing. It means that more people are doing it and more files are being used on-wiki, which is fantastic. No matter what and how.
  2. I do not expect the community to sort any problem out. Anyone is free to access my discussion page and let me know gently if I’m making something wrong and ask me to correct it. I will gladly do it. And If you find so annoying to make corrections, then don't do it. No one asked you to. The idea behind Wiki is to like and enjoy making edits, even corrections.
“may look like good self-justification”
  1. It’s not a self-justification. I'm not justifying anything. I never said a word about that until now.
  2. The project is not “mine.” It’s a project with more than 20 users participating. I do not claim it.
“no one can find them (because they are not in the right categories)"
  1. Do you have prove of that? As far as I know, everyone I spoke can find them just fine and use them.
  2. As you said, I make large uploads. With thousands different categories. Most of them are, in fact, right. Some, obviously, will be wrong, as a matter of probability. Errors are expected to occur (even more because we deal with metadata from institutions that are not used to Commons, Wikipedia and Wikidata). It’s better to have them eventually, then to never upload important files at all.
“there may be no net gain to Commons or the community”
  1. If you think that there’s no gain to Commons or the community at all, I just feel sorry for you, because you clearly fail to understand the idea behind open access, which is the base of Wikipedia entirely. And, also, you fail to understand how a project like that, with thousands of files (which were not accessible online before in any form), is important not only for the on-wiki Community, but to the accessibility of knowledge and also to the entire society. And even more for the knowledge concerning my country and countries besides US and the one from the European continent. For that reason, I recommend you to access GLAMorgan for some of the GLAMs my group does and see the results for yourself:
    1. Paulista Museum
    2. Arquivo Nacional
300 imagens and good work? Great! I really hope those were fantastic files. Congratulations, truly. But your project was your project. That's a different project, with different aims. But, nevertheless, with that commentary, you clearly showed the reason behind your comment: it was not just to suggest edits, or even complain and contribute to the community, but veiled resentfulness.
This discussion is over. Have a nice day. --GiFontenelle (talk) 13:56, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Temper, temper! Johnbod (talk) 14:09, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
GiFontenelle, this is the set the user you are talking to has uploaded as part of an alleged GLAMWiki initiative. Results speak for themselves: [1], so does category curation: [2]. GiFontenelle, keep up the good work --and I'm sorry editors like this one are just unable to state the obvious: thank you for your amazing contribution. --Joalpe (talk) 19:05, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi GiFontenelle, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

  1. You edited User:GiFontenelle/common.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
  2. Though, that change appears to introduce 1 new jshint issue — the page's status is now having warnings. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
  3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Lascon 2020 69.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image".
