categorization of your uploads

thanks for your uploads. However, when I stumbled over a recently uploaded image of yours, I found that the sorting of your uploads into categories was a bit sub-optimal. Often there was over-categorization, but sometimes you had put your images also in totally unrelated categories. Wiki Science Competition 2021 has started

Dear uploader of European Science Photo Competition 2015 and Wiki Science Competition 2017 and Wiki Science Competition 2019, we would like to remind you that Wiki Science Competition 2021 has started in the whole world. It is now completed in Russia (active in May), but it's still open in almost all the other countries.
If you want to take part in WSC2021, please consult this page. Only some national categories are associated to competitions with local prizes.
If you are an expert user, we remind you that images uploaded within the deadline can be included in any case in their national category even if not uploaded with the main interface.
Please keep in mind that there is a new category this year, that is "astronomy".
If you already took part in a country that has completed its upload phase, please consider improving the description in English of your files (click on the edit button), since such description is what the international jury will use to evaluate them. World finalists will be finalized after March 2020.

- You definitively did, as when reverting a file to an earlier version, the last version is overwritten[1]. I have now removed all versions from the file-history that showed other images than the original one. Please study COM:OVERWRITE. As filenames are of minor importance, you have simply to accept that the initial uploader choose that name for an image of his cat, eventually it's the cats name. Wiki Loves Folklore is an international photography contest hosted on Wikimedia Commons to document folklore and intangible cultural heritage from around the world, such as folk festivals, folk dances, folk music, folk activities, folk games, folk cuisine, folk wear, folktales, folk games, folk religion, mythology, and many more.
The campaign invites participants to document photographs, videos, and audios linked to folk culture and fit within the contest's theme. Hi 🙂! Regarding the categories you're (re-)adding to this file…
I removed a few categories from this file, assuming the reasons for that are obvious, but you restored them. I removed them again, this time explaining the reasons explicitly in the edit summary – but you restored them once again.
Here's why I think these categories should be removed:
- Black tea: this is a parent category of Cups of black tea; usually, it's avoided to put a file into a higher-level (=less precise) category when it's already in a lower-level (=more precise) category
- Hot drinks: same story – this is yet higher-level category (Hot drinks ↘︎ Tea ↘︎ Types of tea ↘︎ Black tea ↘︎ Cups of black tea)
- Black tea by country: this is a meta category, which should only include other categories, not files

Seems like you are not really understanding the logig of the categorizing? You are reverting my edits at File:Buff Momo 1.jpg. Here the logic is Category:Food of Nepal -> Category:Cuisine of Nepal and Category:Flour-based food of Nepal - > Category:Momos in Nepal, so if you add the file to last one, you don't add it to the higher-lever ones. Category:Cuisine by country is a meta category, which should only include other categories, not files. You can read more from Commons:Categories. --Velma (talk) 05:33, 25 October 2023 (UTC)

About categorisation again
[edit]Hi, I want to remind you again of categorisation policy of commons (Commons:Categories), because you were reverting my edits, which I had done like the policy is.
- File:Babai River.jpg: this is not belonging to Category:Rivers or stretches of rivers of Nepal by type, because that is only for other categories and not individual files. File is in Category:Babai River, which is already in Category:Rivers of Nepal, so you don't add the file again to this category.
- File:Pashupatinath 8.jpg: Category:Pashupatinath is a disamiguation category to several places with the same name, so the file belongs only into Category:Pashupatinath Temple, Kathmandu, which is already in lower-lever categories Category:Hindu temples, so you don't categorise it there again.
- File:Chhurpi 1.jpg: Category:Chhurpi is in Category:Cheese from Nepal > Category:Cuisine of Nepal > Category:Food of Nepal, so according to the policy, file is categorised only to the Category:Churpi, not for the upper categories.
I hope I don't need to explain this again for you with the other files, because I checked there is problems like this with many of the photos which you have uploaded. --Velma (talk) 12:19, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

- I'm doing categorisation for thousands of photos by dozens of people, so it's not only for your photos. [edit]Dear uploader of European Science Photo Competition 2015 and Wiki Science Competition 2017, Wiki Science Competition 2019 and Wiki Science Competition 2021, we would like to remind you that Wiki Science Competition 2023 has started in almost all the countries.
If you want to take part in WSC2023, please consult this page. Only some national categories are associated to competitions with local prizes.
If you are an expert user, we remind you that images uploaded within the deadline can be included in any case in their national category even if not uploaded with the main interface.
If you already took part in a country that has completed its upload phase (such as Russia), please consider improving the description in English of your files (click on the edit button), since such description is what the international jury will use to evaluate them. World finalists will be finalized after March 2024.

Greetings from the Wiki Loves Folklore International Team! Wiki Loves Folklore is an international photography contest hosted on Wikimedia Commons to document folklore and intangible cultural heritage from around the world, such as folk festivals, folk dances, folk music, folk activities, folk games, folk cuisine, folk wear, folktales, folk games, folk religion, mythology, and many more.
The campaign invites participants to document photographs, videos, and audios linked to folk culture and fit within the contest's theme. Through this campaign, you may become a part of a community dedicated to preserving our intangible culture, which has been brought and passed down for thousands of years.
How can I Contribute?
The dates for the submission in the photography contest on Wikimedia Commons are from 1 February 2024 through 31 March 2024. Probably you are wondering how you can take part. It’s simple: grab a camera, record an image, video or audio under the folklore theme and start uploading or Click on Upload Now Icon which is available on right side of Wiki Loves Folklore 2024.
