  • Hi Dharmadhyaksha, I just wanted to express how disappointed I am with this deletion policy. If you encountered any deletion of Tropenmuseum upload, let me know.--Rochelimit (talk) 09:30, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, what? I don't get it. What policy is disappointing? §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 10:16, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
Hi sorry for the very late reply, I just read the message. It's about the Freedom of Panorama in Indonesia actually. Because of the current ugly situation of the Indonesian Freedom of Panorama law many of the historic pictures of Indonesia was deleted from Wikipedia, including pictures that was earlier donated by Tropenmuseum. To make it worse, many of the users who ask for the deletion are users that doesn't know anything about the real situation of law in Indonesia, nor even know anything about Indonesia. So I was actually disappointed by this, so just saying. Really sorry if I wasted your time.--Rochelimit (talk) 21:07, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello Dharmadhyaksha. I followed your comment and added coordinates. I renamed the category because I just knew this morning it was not the good name of the animal but I didn't found sub-categories of this species in Commons. It's my first nomination demand so I don't control the way to do it. Now the cat is renamed do you think I need to ask for renaming the file during the review of after ? I thank you for your comment. If you have a little time to reconsider your review and may be give me some advice ... Thanks again. Have a good day. --Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 16:46, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

Hello! Welcome to VICs. I did notice that this is your first nomination. Hence i dropped that note about geocode and sub-category. Or else i don't know anything about birds and bees. Good that you could find the right classification. I am sure other members who know more about it would comments on it. At times it might get slow and take time, but don't be disappointed with that. Have a nice day! §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 04:58, 21 February 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for all Dharmadhyaksha. I could be a little disappoited but I know it's very difficult to get a VI. I take that with philosophy . Shinde Chhatri, exterior

Hi,

There is a special technique for this kind of photography or there is not enough space between the subject and the photographer. Requires two images width, which merges to have a large place on both sides of the building for perspective correction can be done by following there. --Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 06:26, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for this tip. But i am not a professional photographer. I am just a point-n-shoot photographer. But i will try this method sometime for sure, sticking two images in this manner. Thanks! §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 11:01, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Your message on my talk page about the old indian photograph

Hi Dharmadhyaksha !
Thanks for kind message.
I'm not a "specialist" of photographs restoration (the great specialist of pictures -not only photographs- restoration is User:Adam Cuerden, without doubt), but as I was at home due to a disease this winter, I could not take own photographs anymore.
Therefore, I've began a "hunt" on the net, for old pictures, even since health is back, fortunately.
As some of them where really damaged, I tried to correct them, and... it was successful enough.
Now it is something like a kind of hobby... And the weather is very bad over Paris since months, so I'm waiting for spring for new own photographs !
Archaeodontosaurus is right about the flaws of this picture, but they all are correctible IMO (tilt, spots, strong magenta color at left etc...).
It takes time, but it is easy to improve, even with a free software like GIMP I use.
I suggest you to begin the job (correct the tilt, play with the level tools, clone out the spots etc...). The best is to open the file at a very high resolution (400% or more).
Is it a "FP worthy" picture ? Frankly I don't know. The best you have to do is to nominate it ! Then, you will know !
All the best, --Jebulon (talk) 15:54, 13 April 2013 (UTC)

File:Wattana.jpg

Dear, sir. I understand about your reason. However, File:Wattana.jpg in Thai's wikipedia has already used at least 4 articles (:http://th.wikipedia.org/wiki/ไฟล์:Wattana.jpg) but File:Wattana.jpg has no article used both thai and others wikipedia. So, It's better if we changes this file name in commons. However, If it can not rename file, it should be delete from commons. Because this file may be major use in Thai's wikipedia more than others. Thank you --ScorpianPK (talk) 15:03, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello! I don't under Thai language. But i guess the subject is a Minister and has been member of parliament multiple number of times. In such case, other non-thai wikipedias can surely have articles on him. There is no reason that he will be restricted only for Thai Wikipedia. Its just that no one has started it yet. Maybe you could start one on English Wikipedia. Also, Commons is a common source for all images. We do not delete images for this reason. Even if it is not used anywhere in any wikipedia, as long as the subject qualifies our scope, we will host it here. I would suggest you to in fact transfer the other image too over here, if it fits our all licensing rules, under a different name. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 05:06, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for your helpful advice --ScorpianPK (talk) 18:00, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I'm asking you since you uploaded the pic. Do you have any idea who is the other lady in this pic? Because, we already have an extracted image File:Mumtaz.jpg and perhaps don't require this anymore if the other person is not notable. In addition to being a problem about personality rights, it might also be about Commons being used as a private album. May be I am wrong. That's why I've not yet marked it for deletion. Will wait for your comments. Regards, Rahul Bott (talk) 05:46, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for taking care of the moving requests I submitted. ^_^ What should I do about the other four, File:Skyscapers Rotterdam.jpg, File:Raccons in a tree.jpg, File:Maxim Ivaders Must Die Tour Philidelphia May 19 2009.jpg, and File:Conferderate artillery emplacements.jpg‎, all of which have apparently been renamed in the past ("Looks like this image was renamed already. Please remove the rename template."), but whose file names still contain misspellings?—DocWatson42 (talk) 05:26, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

Bollywood Hungama uploads

After about a month I am trying to download image from BH and I am getting server message 'you don't have permission'. If you and other users are able to download images like this then BH has certainly done something to my IP. But why would they when I had stopped image uploads about a month ago? Confused. Neo. (talk) 15:14, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

Hey Neo! Sorry for late reply. There are some images in BH, especially the old ones, which were moved by the website to different locations. They revamped themselves sometime ago and hence the old images are sometimes seen in search results as thumbnails but their larger versions are not available when you click on them. This case seems to be same. I dont think they will block a certain IP as such. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 18:27, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

I don't understand how a copyrighted image by Bollywood Hungama, which is properly sourced can be marked as a copy vio! --Smarojit (talk) 18:32, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Oh! Sorry! I know u have uploaded many from BH and thats why i thought u r aware of this problem but have simply forgotten about it while uploading. The thing is that BH has claimed that these pics are theirs, but on various occasions we have noticed that higher resolution or uncropped images are copyrighted by others. This is happening a lot with their out-of-India snaps, especially Cannes, Oscars and such awards. Take a look at Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Unreviewed files from Bollywood Hungama and since then many were simply speedy deleted. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 18:34, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
Oh I see. Sorry, wasn't aware of that. Very shocking to see a reputed website like BH doing such a thing...anyway, thanks for the heads up now. :) --Smarojit (talk) 18:35, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Contested file renaming

Hi there. Yesterday you renamed this file: File:Mulhouse Alstom Citadis 302 tram on loan in Buenos Aires, September 2009.jpg. I am the author of this picture and I wished I had been consulted before making the change. The new name is incorrect, the picture was taking in Brasilia, Brazil, not in Buenos Aires, as the description clearly explains it. This user is consistently and unnecessarily changing file names with long names that almost repeat the existing description of the image. VLT is short for "veiculo liviano sobre trilhas" in Portuguese (Light rail transit or tram in English), and BSB is short for Brasilia, plus the original name had the date it was taken (09 2009). I have uploaded now more than 2,000 pics in the Commons, and my images have a personal control number for filing purposes, just in case I need to find the original image (I have already been asked for the higher resolution raw images for use in books). There are thousands of images with names non understandable in English and this is no reason to change it to English (just think Japanese, Chinese, etc. names), nor the name I used is just a string of random numbers. This user is using a full description for filenames, which I think is completely unnecessary when the existing description is adequate. If you could reversed the move I will appreciate it. Thanks.--Mariordo (talk) 03:34, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

The name "VLT BSB 09 2009 W3 7466" is very much gibberish, especially as compared to "Mulhouse Alstom Citadis 302 tram on loan in Buenos Aires, September 2009". So if such names are present, there is a very good chance that other users will propose a name change. Even if it messes with your personal system which no one knows about. Hence its actually better to have some meaningful names in the very first place. To solve the problem of wrong location, you can propose a name change and someone will take care of it. If you are suggesting that a particular user is specifically targeting your images, then you may complain at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 06:57, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
Being someone from a developing country your lack of respect for Portuguese and another culture is astonishing. VLT BSB 09 2009 W3 7466.JPG is not gibberish, as much as any filename in Hindu, Japanese or Chinese. The name means VLT = veículo leve sobre trilhos (English: LRT light rail transit or tram), BSB = Brasília, the capital of Brazil 09 2009 = September 2009, no explanation required, and W3 is the name of a main avenue in BSB (that is the convention of street names in Brasilia) and only 7466 is a personal code. And how come you go alone with a gross mistake like including Buenos Aires, the capital of another country, in the filename new name, you are not even humble enough to at least fix that error. You made it you fix it. Still in doubt, check the sister picture File:Trem Leve Brasilia (VLT) Panorama 1.jpg. And I guess you are fully aware you did other changes requested by the same user.--Mariordo (talk) 01:25, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
PS: Still in doubt, check the article in Portugues VLT de Brasília.
You are simply creating a mountain from a molehill by dragging cultures and countries in this. Even if those acronyms are legit, they made no sense to the requester nor me. A proper name like this is so much better. I have rectified the location of Brasilia in the title. That's all i will do. For changing the name back to those alphabets, you have to request for another file move. And Hindu is commonly a religion and Hindi is a language. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 04:32, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

I don't understand the problem? It is clearly indicated the link is from BollywoodHungama.com . If you check the tags, it states: Events and Parties; that's the authorized section in the site where we can take pictures from.

So what is the copyright issue again? --Meryam90 (talk) 15:50, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

People simply see red banner and start complaining. Isn’t it? The banner says that the source is missing. The link given by you as source doesn’t go to the image uploaded. Mend it and its done. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 16:48, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

Ror image - painting?

Hi, File:King_Ror.jpg has recently been uploaded as "own work". It was previously available on various Facebook pages but there is no indication of copyright etc. I'm concerned because this looks like the work of a professional artist - perhaps a painting, perhaps a book cover - and while we do have professional and/or extremely talented amateur artists here, these things tend usually to be incorrectly attributed as own work. Any thoughts? - Sitush (talk) 13:03, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

Have tagged it as copyvio. Feel free to do that next time by yourself. Just give the facebook or whatever link you have. Admins here don't waste much time pondering over such suspects. Genuine owners will definitely contact back. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 16:37, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

Deleted images

Hi there! So, I noticed you recently deleted a bunch of images that I tried to upload from Bollywood Hungama, and I was just wondering, why??? I thought that pictures from Bollywood Hungama were allowed to be uploaded onto Commons :/ AB01 (talk) 11:07, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

Hello! Pictures from BH are allowed to be uploaded onto Commons, which fall under parties/events like types. But recently we have been noticing higher resolution images or higher crop images elsewhere on internet other than BH. Hence when in doubt that the actual owner of these images could be someone other than BH, we delete these images. Check out the various links at Template_talk:Cc-by-3.0-BollywoodHungama#Link_collection for other examples. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 10:37, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
Ohh, ok. Did not know that BH could do dodgy things like that! Thanks for letting me know! :) AB01 (talk) 12:10, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
No probs! §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 12:43, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

BH image clean up

I've had to speedy quite a few BH images as they were copies of Getty images. I've made a minor change to the template now, but perhaps something like an exception to events outside India might be needed to be safe, think about it. Also, there are many more Cannes images etc that have been license reviewed that have to go. —SpacemanSpiff 18:44, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

Shocking and disappointing it is but many images within India are also found to be copyvios. It is must for us to review images of events outside India, but India-location images aren't safe either. I have been adding all links at Template_talk:Cc-by-3.0-BollywoodHungama#Link_collection as they might be useful later on. (Don't know how they could be useful but if i sit for a while to think on it i can come up with silly reasons at least of documenting these image.) You too please add them there.
On same topic i have something different to point out. Our guideline COM:CROP does not allow overwriting images. Hence uploaders may either create a different file for the cropped version or straightaway only upload the cropped version. (I have practised both.) If different files are uploaded, i consider that as a huge wastage of space and unnecessarily filling up. On the other hand, if we upload already cropped images, it might be difficult to establish if the source BH actually owned it or not, if they were to replace their stuff again and if all source links were to go useless. A solution to that could be to allow substantial cropping against our guideline. But this is based on my assumption that uploading a cropped image as overwrite is space-saver than uploading two separate images. What do you think? §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 05:13, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
I agree that within India images might also be copyvios, but we now know for certain that outside India images are, so the least we should do is to say that they aren't covered. As for new image vs new revision, I don't think there's much space saving -- all revisions are stored, so you'll just have two separate logs consuming the same space. I personally prefer uploading the original and immediately reuploading a cropped version if required. But as I do it only for images I upload and pretty much immediately I think it's been ok. As for the log, I'll add to it then, I've had about ten deleted so far. —SpacemanSpiff 05:30, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
Category:Files at International Film Festivals from Bollywood Hungama is a start, lots more to add I guess. —SpacemanSpiff 15:34, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
I've modified the template to reflect some of these issues. This is probably the best possible solution that will not lead to a discussion of deleting all BH. —SpacemanSpiff 05:31, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Re:BollywoodHungama

Religious pricinple, thanks for the links you gave me. I have read all of them and have understood that the clubbed and last scene ones were copyrighted since they are screenshots of a film, to which BH does not have copyrights. But this one - File:Last scene High polygonal structure.jpg was is only found in BH and has no duplicate in the entire internet so comparing with the cases in the links you gave me -

  1. Copyright violation? ✘[No] because no other copy in the entire internet
  2. Deleted images ✘[No] No again for the above.
  3. Noomi Rapace ✘[No] No again for the above.

So I am not contesting the deletion of the previous two this one - File:Last scene High polygonal structure.jpg I am concerned cause the source of it has a BollywooHungama watermark which probably means BH is the copyright holder. Thanks, Sohambanerjee1998 14:49, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

Its plain. The stages of digitization of scenes will explicitly be considered to be owned by the producer of the film. Whether they exist elsewhere or not is immaterial. Also, the BH's OTRS talks about snaps "exclusively created by their own photographers" which it clearly isn't. Watermarks don't hold copyright status. As all image on Commons are free for modification, i can write BOLD Font 72 Dharmadhyaksha on them. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 15:13, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
Yeah thats fo sure. Sohambanerjee1998 15:32, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

BH images

I have figured out long ago that freelance photographers cover bollywood events and they sell photos to many sites. Many sites own copyrights of the same image. If you go on searching, you will have to delete almost every BH image. It is better to contact BH through some user to clear this matter, otherwise it is going to create very big problem in future and Commons will have to delete thousands of past and future BH images. Thank you, so much, Justify your following allegations on, how the file had a copyright violation tag??, the picture was originally publish at Bollywood Hungama. Please, clear my doubts??

BH image question

Are you sure about this file: [[File:KatrinaKaif.jpg]]? It is awfully high quality, and the original has the name "Dabboo Ratnani Photography" on it. Bollyjeff (talk) 19:41, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
