Commons templates translation

[edit]

Hi Amire80, I noticed you speak he-4 and you seem to be spending some time on translations. Would you be willing to help to get these messages translated? Thank you, Multichill (talk) 11:14, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for asking!
I noticed it already. It will bring Hebrew on translatewiki very close to 100% :)
Is there some semi-automatic way to translate these rather repetitive messages? --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 18:37, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, copy and pasting + the list of countries at your local wiki seems to be the quickest way to do the whole list of Creative Commons templates. For the other templates it's easy to have a look at the current translation. Multichill (talk) 21:46, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Amire,

I discovered the image of the Aleppo Codex is nominated for the prize for Picture Of The Year/2009. Im delighted. I, Haldrik, am the one who originally created and uploaded that image. Unfortunately, nowhere am I credited for my contribution. Could you please look into this problem and rectify it. Haldrik[1] 08:07, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Translations of templates

[edit]

Hi Amire80, some of our more important templates are translated at Translatewiki:. For most templates we have a lot of translations and a lot of languages are fully translated (stats). Unfortunately that's not the case for Hebrew. Could you help to get these messages translated? Multichill (talk) 13:48, 13 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Temp adminship

[edit]

Hi there. I just wanted to let you know that you have less than two weeks before your temporary adminship expires, so you might want to make any necessary admin-related edits or actions before then. You are still free to request permanent adminship if needed. Regards, –Juliancolton | Talk 14:15, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reminder. I am terribly busy IRL right now - Wikimania 2010, Wikimania 2011, exams, work etc. I shall hopefully get back to work here soon and maybe ask for permanent adminship. Feel free to remove my rights in the meantime. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 10:20, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Another update to tell you your adminship has been removed by a steward. Again, feel free to request permanent adminship at any time. Regards, –Juliancolton | Talk 22:44, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please check these images with hebrew description

[edit]

Hi, can you please take a look at: File:בית הכנסת החרב.jpeg, File:פנים בית הכנסת אוהל יעקב8.1938 .jpg and File:יום כיפור שנת תרסט.jpg. Some may be old enough for their copyright to expire, but I would like you to check the licenses out. I'm pretty sure, the given licenses are faulty, because right now they claim that the uploader made the images himself. Maybe some of them are old enough to be flagged as PD-old? Then we could keep them. Thanks in advance. --h-stt !? 08:59, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

First, i renamed the files so it will be easier to deal with them.
Thanks. I am from Munich, Germany and would like to use all or some for our existing article on the former synagogue: de:Alte Synagoge Ohel Jakob (München). But the licenses need to be confirmed. Thanks for notifying Jys and your help. --h-stt !? 08:20, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It took ages, but now I used at least one of the images. I'm still skeptic, regarding the others. Thanks again for your help. --h-stt !? 20:28, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Amire80!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hi Amire80,
I have cropped your upload File:Guy Deutscher.JPG. If you don't like it, feel free to revert to your original version. --Túrelio (talk) 09:17, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!
You're so fast! I uploaded the large version, because commons admins sometimes doubt that the uploader actually took the picture himself and want to see full version as a proof. I already created a cropped version and was about to upload it and then i saw that you already did it. Then i wanted to thank you on your talk page and saw that you already wrote on mine.
I'm getting old, i guess. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 09:21, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Transcription

[edit]

Hi, I am currently recreating the Imperial Coat of Arms of Ethiopia, and I am almost finished. You indicate in your profile to have a basic understanding of Amharic, and you're the only one who seems to be active. Could you help me with something? Could you transcribe the text on the throne and under the lion for me, in unicode Ge'ez/Amharic script? I'm unfamiliar with this script, so I want to avoid making mistakes in transcribing it. The plan is to take your transcribed text and past it into Inkscape. If you can't do this, do you know someone who can? :) Adelbrecht (talk) 22:59, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!
I'm so glad that after all these years, it's finally useful to somebody! :)
My knowledge of Amharic is very weak, but it's probably enough for this time. The writing is very fuzzy, but it's sharp enough to read the second word - "Anbassa", which means "lion", and is very common and meaningful in the Ethiopian culture. This helped me Google up the solution: "Moa Anbassa Ze Imnegede Yehuda". See here for more. ("Ze Imnegede" looks like one word, "Zeimnegede", on the image that you sent.)
The dots between the words are like spaces.
The letters at the top are something like "A.M.A", and I don't know what it means. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 04:52, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Could you write it down in the Ge'ez/Amharic script? As you've said, the letters are a bit fuzzy, and I find the Amharic script to be very confusing. (I've been able to decipher Greek and Russian before, but this is madness! :p ) I've got the letters at the top, they're the Amharic Alef (ኣ) and Wau or something, though I'm not sure whether I picked the right version. I know! I'll show you what I've got now, so you'll see what I'm attempting to do: picture. So I only actually need the script, though the translation would be quite interesting to add in the description. But if I understand correctly, the writing on the throne and the writing below are the same, or is the writing on the throne illegible? If so, [perhaps this one works http://www.majhost.com/gallery/tole/ramdom/ethiopia_seal.jpg]. Adelbrecht (talk) 10:24, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Here, again, I did the lazy thing and just found it in en:Haile Selassie I: ሞዓ፡አንበሳ፡ዘእምነገደ፡ይሁዳ. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 10:39, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, haha, I should have checked that. Thank you. And the writing on the throne, what phrase is that? I would assume it's the "King of Kings (Emperor) of Ethiopia, Elect of God" (ንጉሠ፡ ነገሥት፡ ዘኢትዮጵያ፡ ሰዩመ፡ እግዚአብሔር), but the letters don't seem to match. The throne part seems to start with a letter similar to አ . Adelbrecht (talk) 10:47, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's "ኢትዮጵያ" in the beginning and "እግዚአብሔር" in the end, but I don't understand the rest. I'll ask a friend. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 11:09, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I'll avoid Amharic/Ge'ez in the future. :p Adelbrecht (talk) 11:11, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have found the transliteration: Ityopia tabetsih edewiha habe Igziabiher. Perhaps that helps. I've tried transliterating that to the script with Google transliteration, and I got this result: ኢትዮጵአ ፡ ታበትስህ ፡ አደውሃ ፡ ሃበ ፡ እግዚአብሔር Perhaps you can correct this, if there are any errors. Adelbrecht (talk) 11:18, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's what I thought, but I'm not sure about the spelling. I'll try to find it. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 11:21, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
ኢትዮጵያ ፡ ታበጽ ፡ እደዊሃ ፡ ሃበ ፡ እግዚአብሔር , as someone on Facebook has used, perhaps? Adelbrecht (talk) 11:24, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Now I took a better look at the second, clearer, image. It'\s design is a bit different, as you probably noticed. Fow what it's worth, its text is more readable. Here it is:
bottom: ሞአ፡አንበሳ፡ዘእምነገደ፡ይሁዳ
throne: ኢትዮጵአ፡ታበጽሐ፡እደዊሃ፡ሃበ፡እግዚአብሔር.
I can't google it up, but I'm quite sure that it's correct. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 12:00, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Amir,
I'm planning to redraw the Yiddish Wikipedia logo into SVG, but I'm having trouble finding the "David CLM" font that you used. Do you have any idea where I can find it, and whether it's freely licenced? I know there is the Taamay David CLM font (also known as "Culmus David CLM"), but I can't find the original one anywhere… Thanks in advance for your help, odder (talk) 20:10, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
Taamey David CLM is pretty much the same. It just has improved support for diacritical marks, which is probably a good thing.
If you really need David CLM, here's a direct link to a TGZ that contains the TTF.
Huge thanks for your work! --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 18:01, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that the logo might not be entirely correct — would you mind looking into the problem and speaking up at this page on Meta? Thanks! odder (talk) 17:50, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Replied there. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 17:58, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's been almost a year since my original post, and the logo I had drawn hasn't made it to the Yiddish Wikipedia yet. We have two logos that can be added to their respective Wikipedias (eml and kg mentioned at User:Nemo bis/Wikipedia). @Amir and @Redaktor, is there anything wrong with this logo that is preventing it from being added to the Yiddish Wikipedia? odder (talk) 12:04, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Amir, what does this slide mean? As far as I know, nothing has ever been said to the Commons community about what they need to do in order to get TranslateSVG deployed. Hi Amire80, You uploaded the flac-files of Kimiko Ishizaka's recording of The Well-Tempered Clavier. On the file-pages there is a link to a trancoded ogg-version, but it does not seem possible to directly link to the ogg-files to use them on Wikipedia-pages. Hi Amire80, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

 • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the Rename template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
 • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
 • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Notification about possible deletion

[edit]
Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

File:Sunda-Sulawesi.svg

[edit]

Hello.

Can you add the border between Laos and Burma and the border between Malaysia and Indonesia in the central gap of Borneo which is missing in File:Malayo-Polynesian mk.svg, File:Nuclear Malayo-Polynesian mk.svg, File:Borneo-Philippines mk.svg, File:Malayo-Sumbawan languages mk.svg, File:Sunda-Sulawesi mk.svg, as well as in File:Malayo-Polynesian-en.svg, File:Malayo-Polynesian-es.svg, File:Malayo-Polynesian-ru.svg, File:Malayo-Polynesian-sr.svg, File:Borneo-Philippines.svg, File:Bornean languages-en.svg, File:Philippine languages map.svg, File:Nuclear Malayo-Polynesian.svg, File:Malayo-Sumbawan languages.svg and File:Sunda-Sulawesi.svg - by copying the borders from File:Malayo-Polynesian-de.svg?

Unfortunately I don't know how to edit SVG maps myself, that is why I asked you.

Thank you.

Important message for file movers

[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

 • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
 • To perform file name swaps.
 • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

File:Wear mask in Jerusalem Light Rail.jpg was recently deleted by JuTa for reasons below. If you disagree with the deletion, you need to file an undeletion request.

Reason for deletion: No OTRS permission since 9 August 2020

It's best to discuss with the administrator who deleted your file before filing an undeletion request. Deletion Notification Bot (talk) 06:29, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Russian translation of the OTRS release generator

[edit]

Hi Amir!

I'm looking for a speaker of Russian who can finish the translation of the questions in the OTRS release generator. The welcome text on its landing page is stored in a template within the page's wikitext. The questions that follow are in large part the same as a previous version of the release generator. I've done my best to make a setup based on the translation that had already been done. Only a few gaps still need filling in. Vera (talk) 16:50, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Vera,
I took a look at it. Unfortunately, I'm extremely busy in real life right now and I cannot do it very quickly. In addition, even though Russian is native language, I don't write in the Russian Wikipedia so often, and my knowledge of the little details of legal terminology is quite imperfect.
I can recommend User:Kaganer and User:Putnik as very experienced Russian translators.
In addition, I strongly recommend putting it up for translation at translatewiki. Translating by manually editing JSON files on wiki pages is quite inconvenient. translatewiki is a site made for convenient translations, and it already hosts several gadgets, such as Twinkle. Adding this one will probably be quite easy. If you do this, you'll get translations to a lot of languages because that's the most familiar platform for MediaWiki user interface translators. See translatewiki:Translating:New_project. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 11:52, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! thank you for your reply. I've made a ticket asking OTRS:RELGEN to be added to translatewiki. --Vera (talk) 13:58, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Helps

[edit]

Hello @Amire80 ! I am writing to you for two things: I am in the process of translating or creating some templates and help pages on Haitian Creole. Because I'm a wiki event organizer. our user group is committed to promoting content in our language. I have noticed while leading workshops that participants adapt better in the native language. this is the reason for my work. In addition I would like the Haitian Creole language wikipedia to be more attractive. However, I encountered two problems: 1) every day, it happens to me for a moment that I no longer have access to any wikimedia project while I navigate easily on other sites. But it happens to me especially after a visit to commons. I would like someone to check for me if it comes from the administration of the IP addresses. 2) by translating the infobox models from French to Creole wikipedia I found this problem that I cannot solve (Lua error in Module:Enfobox on line 20: attempt to call field 'translate' (a nil value)) the problem comes from the module, and Here is an example . Can you intervene for me or do you know someone who can?

very cordially, Kitanago (talk) 10:27, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjou @Kitanago !
Mèsi pou kesyon ou yo ak pou travay ou pou amelyore Wikipedia Ayisyen an !
Pou premye bagay la, mwen pa konnen. Li ka yon pwoblèm teknik. Souple, eseye mande sou Commons:Village pump/Technical.
Pou dezyèm bagay la, mwen devine ke ou dwe enpòte kèk modil plis. Sepandan, li pi bon pou mande an franse sou paj diskisyon modil sa a nan Wikipedya Franse a : w:fr:Discussion module:Infobox.
De plis kòmantè sou sijè sa a :
Finalman, paske ou te mande, gen plizyè lòt sijè sou Wikipedya Ayisyen an ke mwen ta renmen diskite avèk ou. Bagay pi enpòtan an se lokalizasyon lojisyèl. Avèk kèk kowòdinasyon ak @Gilles2014, mwen te eseye amelyore lokalizasyon kreyòl ayisyen dènyèman, men kèk bagay mwen te fè bezwen tcheke, ak anpil lòt bezwen fè pa moun ki konnen lang nan byen. Mwen ta renmen diskite sou li avèk ou an plis detay lè ou gen tan.
Mèsi !
P.S. Ou ka reponn an kreyòl ! Kòm ou ka wè, mwen ka li li, epi menm ekri yon ti jan. Mwen regrèt pou erè mwen yo :) Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 14:48, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Bonjou @Amire80 !
Mèsi anpil pou sipò ! M m pral eseye aplike konsèy ou ban mwen an.
Wi sa fè m plezi anpil! M ap mete m disponib pou nou diskite! m sot ajoute siyati m pou sipò bèl pwopozisyon sa a epi si l te deja aplike mwen pa t ap nan difikilte sa a kounye a.
P.S: Ou ka pwopoze disponiblite w!
Kitanago (talk) 11:13, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Kitanago: On Haitian Wikipedia, there's a missing submodule for "Module:Wikidata", which currently requires "Module:Wikidata/Outils" (probably from a French adapdation of Module:Wikidata that you may have loaded from French Wikipedia). The "translate" method used locally in Module:Wikidata (probably coming from the Wikidata site) is not exported as "wd.translate" when you require/load Module:Emfonbox, it is then not located where you think it should be. So this is a bug in your local version of "Module:Enfobox" that you tried to create on Haitian Wikipedia. Beware that even though modules may have identical names between wikis (e.g. "Module:Wikidata" between Wikidata wiki and French Wikipedia wiki), they may have different requirements and may require and use different submodules with different capabilities. May be you can retry by either (1) reloading the "Module:Wikidata" from Wikidata, or (2) by loading the missing "Module:Wikidata/Outils" from French Wikipedia, AND exporting the "translate" function located in the local variable used in "Module:Wikidata". verdy_p (talk) 14:56, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
