Cultivars by alphabet[edit]

I am not sure that what is done in the section Cultivars by alphabet is OK. Cultivars of three different origins are currently mixed:

  • The category Crocus cultivars was originally created for the the so-called Crocus vernus cultivars, i.e., the large-flower Dutch crocusses derived from Crocus vernus and Crocus flavus. Perhaps this category should more accurately be renamed Crocus vernus cultivars.
  • For the so-called Crocus chrysanthus cultivars‎ a category Crocus chrysanthus cultivars was created. This category is devoted to selections and cultivars from Crocus chrysanthus and hybrids of this species with Crocus biflorus and Crocus aerius, as, e.g., Crocus 'Blue Pearl', 'Snowbunting' or 'Cream Beauty'.
  • Selections of other Crocus species should remain related to their wild taxon, i.e., Cocus sieberi for its selections 'Bowles White' and 'Tricolor', Crocus versicolor for its selection 'Picturatus', Crocus tommasinianus for its selections 'Barr's Purple' and 'Ruby Giant', etc.
