Summary[edit]

Description

This movie captures Comet Lovejoy as it escaped from the Sun after its perihelion approach on December 16th, something that most astronomers did not expect since all other Kreutz family comets observed in the last 30 years were not so lucky. This type of data product is known as a "base difference" movie, where each frame has been subtracted by some "base", which in this case is formed from an average of many frames that did not contain emission from the comet.
