Summary[edit]

Description
English: Escaping planetary atomic oxygen ions (O+) viewed by a virtual spacecraft orbiting around Venus in the HYB simulation. The colouring on two perpendicular planes and on a spherical shell just above the planet give the density of oxygen ions in a logarithmic scale (red: high density; dark blue: low density). The density of white dots gives the density of the oxygen ions in 3-dimensional space. Note how the escaping oxygen ions form an ion tail behind the planet. (Animation by R. Jarvinen/FMI).
