Consensual review[edit]

File:0949_NOR_Hammerfest_polar_bear_sculpture_contre_jour_V-P.jpg[edit]

  • Nomination Contre-jour shot of sculpture in front of town hall seen from SE - Hammerfest, Norway --Virtual-Pano 07:46, 9 October 2023 (UTC)
  • Decline
Oppose Lens flares --C messier 19:32, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
Let's hear if others agree that the quality is ruined by the flares. --Virtual-Pano 10:27, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
Oppose I know this style of photography is often praised and appreciated, but I find the extent of the flares distracting. -- Ikan Kekek 04:03, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
  •  Support No issue with the lens flares. Especially as Hammerfest is popular for midnight sun / polar day, and low sun is common there, that picture seems really good to illustrate the atmosphere of that location. Commons' documentation says that artificial lens flares might be undesired, but does not say anything against natural ones. --Plozessor 09:34, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
  •  Comment The guidelines make no distiction between artifial and natural (?) lens flares (which are a different thing from the starburst effect), and these here are quite big and prominent. --C messier 12:16, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
  •  Comment Y, sorry, it's the Photography Terms page that mentions "artificial lens flare" as undesired. Still, for my taste, the lens flares in this picture seem appropriate, emphasizing the low sun and catching the atmosphere of the scene. --Plozessor 13:07, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
  •  Question What is a natural lens flare? -- Ikan Kekek 19:19, 23 October 2023 (UTC)
  •  Oppose Sorry, but the extent of lens flares is too much IMO. --Robert Flogaus-Faust 16:49, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
  •  Support per Plozessor. --Smial 00:00, 23 October 2023 (UTC)
Total: 2 support (excluding the nominator), 3 oppose → Declined   --Peulle 06:41, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
