The City Museum of Ljubljana partnership

Context[edit]

2014 marks the 2000th anniversary of foundation of the ancient roman city Emona on the site where Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, now stands. At a request by the Slovene Wikipedia community, City Museum of Ljubljana donated 49 digital images from their archive for free use on this occasion.

Presentation[edit]

The mission of the City Museum of Ljubljana is to record, document, conserve, study and present the movable cultural heritage as regards the Ljubljana region. Its collection comprises over 200,000 museum objects accounting for several millennia of the Ljubljana region’s heritage. Special mention is to be made of two findings, i.e. the world’s oldest wooden wheel with a wooden axle and a wooden point around 40,000 years old.

The donated images depict archaeological sites of ancient Emona and various artefacts and diagrams from this era held in the museum's collection.
