Subdivisions by country[edit]

Cwbm. Please stop following me around and doing the kneejerk reverting without thinking. See: Category:Subdivisions by country. That is how subcategories are being done in this area. The subdivisions are put in their country categories.

Here are some of the country subdivision categories on the commons: states, counties, provinces, districts, cities, villages, towns, municipalities, communes, departments, regions, province level divisions, prefecture-level divisions, governorates, peripheries, federal Territory, administrative divisions, voivodeships, cantons, and so on.

If the maps are not put in subdivision categories by country, then Category:Maps by country subdivision could eventually have thousands of subcategories. That would make the category useless to many people.

I don't think this category is that necessary. But if this category is going to be kept, then it should be done correctly, so that is of use to more people. Again, please stop the mindless reverts. --Timeshifter (talk) 13:06, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad to see that you have not changed a bit. You could of course not wait a single second before reverting. Honestly your behaviour pisses me of big time. That said explain to me why an intermediate category level is needed since 1) all of these categories only contain one or two categories and 2) the parent category does not even contain 20 cats. --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 13:20, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
I can't help with your emotional problems. You reverted me without thinking. As to the intermediate category level I pointed out how the Commons works. See my previous reply. See also: en:Country subdivision, en:Template:Types of administrative country subdivision, en:List of terms for administrative divisions, en:Administrative division, en:Municipality, etc.. --Timeshifter (talk) 13:28, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To maintain an intermediate level with just one subcategory does neither help the reader nor the editor. This is not how commons works. Why is this needed? --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 09:24, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

There are several country categories here with more than one subcategory. And it is common practice to also create country categories with just one image or subcategory. See Category:Subdivisions by country to see country categories with just one subcategory. I edited map categories on the Commons for almost 2 years before you began editing at the Commons as Cwbm. Please pay more attention to how the Commons works. --Timeshifter (talk) 15:19, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just because there are already some categories with only one subcategory does not mean we have to create more. I still would like to know the reason. --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 16:29, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Please pay more attention to my previous replies. I already gave reasons. --Timeshifter (talk) 14:07, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I already said that your argument is flawed. Cat you mentioned does mostly contain categories with more than one subcat. --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 18:43, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
And some categories there contain only one subcategory. --Timeshifter (talk) 20:45, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Foroa[edit]

Foroa. Why are you removing subcategories from the intermediate levels of Category:Maps by country subdivision? By the way, I did not create Category:Maps by country subdivision.

For example; you removed Category:Maps of departments of France from Category:Maps of subdivisions of France.

That category also contains

Are not all 3 of those subcategories called country subdivisions of France? From en:Country subdivision:

Country subdivision refers to the division of a sovereign state's territory for the sake of its administration, description or other such purpose. The resulting units of division are known generically as "country subdivisions". Unlike geographical or geomorphological areas such as basins, deserts, valleys and the like, country subdivisions are abstract creations intended to make it easier to run the country. There are several types of country subdivisions, including: administrative divisions, electoral divisions, census divisions, development regions, time zones, etc.

It covers all forms of administrative subdivision. --Timeshifter (talk) 16:55, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
