Category:Flags by type of image[edit]

I see no good reason to subdivide Category:Flags by Category:GIF flags, Category:JPG flags, and Category:PNG flags. It has been passed down the tree, dividing categories for specific flags by filetype. I'll make an exception for SVG flags because they are especially scaleable and editable (and for PDF flags because of the lack of basic functionality, but it makes no sense for the three listed above. Delete these and their subcategories. This also applies to Category:Maps by file format and subcategories Category:GIF maps, Category:JPG maps, Category:PNG maps, and Category:TIF maps. not sure about PDF flags. In addition, many GIF flags are just uploaded as wrong format (are not animations). And, at all, GIF format is massively misused in Commons (quite often are not animations)--Estopedist1 (talk) 09:19, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Category:PNG maps of Europe with hundreds of files was probably the worst example of this kind of categorisation, acting as a catch-all for images which would otherwise have been diffused through the extensive tree of topic-based categories under Category:Maps of Europe. Consensus in this discussion was to upmerge. With the exception of SVGs, having these categories is a burden nobody wants to deal with. Rob984 (talk) 09:46, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Rob984, Koavf, and Túrelio: there ended corresponding proposal to make things clearer related to file type categorization by subject. Unfortunately, admins don't show up any activity: see Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard#Proposal_approved--Estopedist1 (talk) 12:16, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Closed, category kept. Category in use with multiple subcats. No active discussion in over 3 years; no consensus to do anything in particular. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 14:46, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
