English: Klare lijn (Dutch for "clear line") is a style of drawing. It uses clear strong lines all of the same width and no hatching, while contrast is downplayed as well. Cast shadows are often illuminate. Additionally, the style often features strong colours and a combination of cartoonish characters against a realistic background. All these elements together can result in giving strips drawn this way a flat aspect. The name was coined by Joost Swarte in 1977.
Nederlands: Klare lijn is de benaming voor een bepaald soort tekenstijl. De term werd bedacht door Joost Swarte en voor het eerst gebruikt ter gelegenheid van de tentoonstelling Kuifje in Rotterdam in 1977. Andere namen die ook wel gebruikt worden zijn "Hergé-stijl" en "Kuifje-stijl".
Français : La Ligne claire La ligne claire est un langage graphique issu de l'école belge de bandes dessinées réunie autour d'Hergé associé aux dessinateurs du journal du même nom. Le terme ligne claire a été forgé en 1977 par le dessinateur néerlandais Joost Swarte, à l'occasion de l'exposition Tintin de Rotterdam.
