Generic Vogelspinne

[edit]

The Teraphosid spider preying on a bird is in my opinion a graphical representation of the popular name of the Teraphosids in German: Vogelspinne, bird spider, implying that this spider is big enough to capture a bird. In popular imagination, these spiders were actually feeding on birds, which does not seem to be confirmed by observation, but opens a path to imagine spiders big enough to feed on humans. Both the spider and the bird seem to be generic, unidentifiable beyond "Theraphosid" and "Passerine". The adequate use of this image could be in the explanation of the legend at the origin of the German word "Vogelspinne". --Lupo Manaro 17:03, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
