Summary
[edit]DescriptionX-ray and optical images of CXOMP J213945 0-234655 (noao-04110).jpg |
English: The most distant X-ray selected quasar currently known (z=4.93) was identified by J.D.Silverman (SAO) and Chris Smith (CTIO) using the Hydra fiber-fed spectrograph on the CTIO Blanco 4-meter telescope. The circle shows the region containing 50% of the encircled energy of the Chandra counts (a radius of 7.3 arc seconds). The cross marks the centroid of the X-ray emission in both images. The optical counterpart is the source closest to the X-ray centroid position. For further details, see the June 2002 NOAO Newsletter (no.70), Science Highlights section (currently only available in PDF format). |
