Summary[edit]

Description

March is Women’s History month, and we want to highlight some of the amazing women here at U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on our social media sites.

Name: Shauna Marquardt

Title: Fish and Wildlife Biologist

Duty station: Missouri Ecological Services Office, Columbia, Missouri

Where did you go to school: University of Central Missouri (Warrensburg, Missouri) and Fort Hays State University (Hays, Kansas)

Optional: What did you study? Bachelor of Science in Biology (undergraduate research on urban and suburban bat ecology) and Master of Science in Biological Sciences (thesis research on cave bat energetics)

How did you get interested in conservation? I was a rural Missouri farm kid who spent more time outside than inside and was fascinated by animals and wild places. Not much has really changed. I can’t imagine a more appropriate career for me than working to conserve the things I hold so near and dear.

What’s your favorite thing about working for FWS? One of my favorite aspects about working for the FWS is being a practitioner of conservation at multiple scales. I work with local partners to conserve endangered species in my state, as well as participate in regional and continental conservation efforts.

If you could have one incredible animal adaptation, what would it be? Definitely the ability to fly! I would enjoy having a bat’s-eye view of the landscape.
