Summary[edit]
DescriptionU-shape boom deployment in California (51601857652).jpg |
July 25, 2018 San Pedro Bay, California Description: As viewed from Platform Esther offshore Orange County, two response vessels from an oil spill removal organization (OSRO) practice maneuvering containment boom into a u-shaped configuration to trap and collect spilled oil during an exercise. Using this tactic, responders can concentrate the oil inside the apex of the boom where it can then be funneled towards a skimmer for removal or burned in place once a thick layer has been formed. BSEE Preparedness Analysts from the Oil Spill Preparedness Division (OSPD) regularly inspect these types of equipment and observe these tactics in industry training and exercise activities to ensure compliance with regulations and to monitor the overall vigor of the oil spill preparedness and response community.
