An idealized representation of a westerly current in the Northern Hemisphere.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: An idealized representation of alternating troughs and ridges in a westerly current, Northern Hemisphere. The areas of upper-level convergence (high pressure) and divergence (low pressure) are labeled. In the Southern Hemisphere, the pattern of troughs and ridges would be reversed, but the areas of convergence and divergence would remain west and east of the trough axis, respectively.
