Summary[edit]

Description
English: Transporting cut heather to repair the moor Dinsdale Moorland Services have been contracted by United Utilities plc, the owner of the water catchment land, to undertake moorland restoration work in this area. The programme (SCaMP) which is a programme funded by both Natural England and United Utilities plc.

The work on this part of the project aims to restore and encourage vegetation coverage to the areas of bare and eroding peat. This work helps to stabilise the peat, and to prevent its further erosion and oxidation. The work will ultimately also benefit moorland wildlife and should also reduce colouration of water running to the collection reservoirs.

The work will be ongoing for a number of months through the winter (2007-08) and involves extensive use of helicopters for the deployment of materials to the surrounding moorland.

Above text from a Public Information Notice at the site.

Heather had been cut and bagged at some other location. It had been brought to site by road and was being flown the short distance by helicopter to Dove Stone Moss.
