es Guerin, of St. Louis, one ofAmericas foremost painters. Mr.Guerin for some years past has madehis home in New York, and the paint-ings for the memorial were done inhis studio there. In keeping with the heroic propor-tions of the Lincoln statue, it is inter-esting to note that the canvas alonefor each of the paintings, which are60 feet long and 12 feet high, weighed300 pounds when work on them wascommenced. They are hung 80 feetabove the floor of the Memorial. The finishing of these paintings re-quired twice as long as the businessof cutting the marble blocks into afinished statue. For three yong yearsGuerin worked in his New York studiobefore the result was satisfactory tohim.
