Summary[edit]

Description
English: Rusting Pipes These rusting pipes lie by the south-eastern side of the site of one of the 373960s at Morton Colliery.

The pipes were part of the infrastructure installed after the mines closure and were part of a pumping scheme that was needed to prevent other working pits in the area from flooding.

Water was pumped up to the pit head of a shaft (immediately to the left of this photograph) and then through pipes to a series of seven 373843s dug into the top of a 373664. The water, which was heavily contaminated, flowed from one lagoon to another and then to a third, before it ran down a brick lined cascade joining local water courses to eventually flow into Westwood Brook.

With the closure of the mines that benefited from this scheme the facility was closed down and now appears abandoned.
