Description
Français : Principe de l'hypertélescope.
Une optique focalisante diluée, représentée ici sous forme d'une lentille segmentée mais qui peut en pratique être un miroir concave géant formé de petits segments éloignés les uns des autres, forme une image d'une source ponctuelle dans son plan focal.
Cette « image interféromètrique de Fizeau » possède un pic central blanc entouré de nombreux pics secondaires , remplissant le large halo de diffraction des sous-ouvertures. En reprenant l'image à travers un densifieur de pupille (à droite), le halo est retrécie le pic central s'en trouve fortement intensifié car l'énergie totale est conservée. Le densifieur comporte une série de petites lunettes de Galilée inversées qui élargissent les éléments de la surface d'onde. Vue du detecteur, la pupille n'est plus diluée mais pleine.
Un second point source, décalé hors de l'axe optique, donne un pic identique décalé si l'espacement est faible. Une image directe d'objects compacts est ainsi obtenue. Le dessin montre une ouverture périodique, mais la disposition des éléments peut être quelconque, auquel cas les pics secondaires de l'image Fizeau sont remplacés par des speckles ou tavelures.
