Summary[edit]

Description
English: Verso of a Victorian-era photograph (cabinet format), featuring an elegant young gentleman, captured by photographer John White. The photo was taken between late January and late February 1886 in the studios of John White, located in England in Ipswich, at 18 Upper Brook Street (now 54 Butter Market) and at 52 Butter Market. The number 55807, written in pencil, serves as an identifier dating back to the time of the photo. According to Roger Vaughan's analysis (1948-2015) of the "Marion Date Code" the backs of cardboard supports would feature an annual date code. However, thanks to the thorough research by David Gobbitt, it is now possible to accurately date the photographic work of John White by relying on this number pencil inscribed. It is possible to find a detailed explanation on the Ancestry site on this subject here. Based on this new information, as well as my own research, i.e., by comparing the closest number of correctly dated photos, we can estimate that the photo was taken between late January 1886 and late February 1886. Verso scanned in high resolution at 1600 DPI.
