Chaudet exprime dans cette effigie une expression fière et consciente de son rôle d'artiste. Il porte une chemise au large et riche décolleté sous sa veste verte et a à la main les outils du métier : le stylet et le bloc à dessin sur lequel on peut apercevoir quelques croquis. Comme d'habitude, l'artiste est présenté dans son rôle de créateur plutôt que de sculpteur, comme pour souligner que la sculpture ne relevait pas de simples activités manuelles, mais impliquait beaucoup de concentration et de réflexion, à travers la phase de dessin préalable à la création des œuvres sculpturales
