Armorial Achievement of Philip Kassotis

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Escutcheon Field: Azure / Sable.

Charges: A chevron argent with three stars azure, surrounded by three maple leaves argent.

Bordure: Although the use of bordure wavy marks an armiger as illegitimate by the College of Arms in England, in this case it symbolises the clouds that surround a mountain top (hence the use of the color argent). The armiger in question has Ottoman Greek origins and isn't constrained by the conventional traditions of heraldry in the West. This is therefore considered a para-heraldic element.

Helmet: Closed

Torse: Azure / Argent

Crest: A mountain top argent, sable crowned by a dawning sun gules, three maple leaves argent, and three stars gules adorned with clovers vert.

Supporters: Two dolphins azure hauriant in both the dexter and sinister, adorned with clovers vert and crossed keys or.

Compartment: Waves

Motto: "A Mari Usque Ad Mare " meaning "From Sea to Sea"

Design rationale: The colors azure and argent represent Greece and the paternal line of Philip Kassotis, while the three maple leaves argent represent his maternal line and the fact that he’s a third generation Canadian citizen. The mountain-like geometry of the lower escutcheon represents the struggles of life and the three stars azure represent hope for a better future. The crest represents the struggles of life and the dawning sun behind it represents hope while the compartment and supporters represent Greece and the Aegean sea. The motto "A Mari Usque Ad Mare " means "From Sea to Sea".
