Un edit-a-thon viene definito come “un momento nel quale persone scrivono assieme su Wikipedia, che sia dal vivo, in remoto, on-line, off-line o un insieme di queste modalità”.

Durante il convegno-edit-a-thon La Semiotica su Wikipedia a Urbino l’edit-a-thon si è strutturato in due momenti principali, replicati durante la mattina e il pomeriggio: una prima fase di impostazione del lavoro e scrittura collettiva; una seconda fase di restituzione dei risultati.
