From the study "‘Bullshit’ After All? Why People Consider Their Jobs Socially Useless"

Summary[edit]

Description
English: "Source: American Working Conditions Survey (AWCS), 2015 (n = 1811)." "First, we see that the share of workers who consider their jobs socially useless is higher in the private sector than in the non-profit or the public sector. This is in line with the theory on public service motivation. Further, jobs involving teamwork are less likely to be considered socially useless, which supports the idea that social interaction is a relevant factor. Finally, salaried workers consider their jobs socially useless more often than self-employed workers. The descriptive analyses thus also show first support for the argument of Wolfe and Patel (2019)."
