Español: NAVÍO ARGOS o ARGUS.
Esta constelación austral que representa un barco fue catalogada por primera vez por Claudio Ptolomeo (125 d. C.) en su obra Almagesto. En la actualidad está representada por cuatro constelaciones: Carina o la Quilla, Puppis o la Popa, Pyxis o la Brújula y Vela. Carina contiene la segunda estrella mas brillante de los dos hemisferios celestes, Canopus o Alfa Carina y se encuentra en la quilla del navío. Tiene una magnitud aparente de -0,72 y de nuestra estrella, el Sol, a 205 años luz de distancia. Se la observa siempre en todas las noches claras del año desde los -37º de latitud hasta los -90º. Desde nuestras latitudes (-37º) y observando hacia el horizonte Sur, Canopus se la ve pasar por el meridiano del lugar (culminación) a una altura de 75º. En ese instante la nave se ve en posición vertical con la Popa hacia arriba (N) y la Vela hacia la izquierda (E). Ver la tablas de las horas de paso de la estrella. Estrella blanco-amarillenta. MIAPLACIDUS o BETA CARINA: Del árabe: al-Miyah, "las aguas", y del latín: placidus, "tranquilas" es decir: "las aguas tranquilas (en que reposa el navío Argus)". Estrella blanca. KOO SHEE o EPSILON CARINA: Del chino. Estrella anaranjada. TSEEN SHE o ETA CARINA: Del chino. Estrella variable, tipo nova, actualmente invisible a simple vista. En el siglo pasado (XIX), su brillo ascendió a la magnitud -1.0; se halla rodeada de nebulosidad y de un cúmulo. ASPIDISKE o IOTA CARINA: Del griego: "el escudo pequeño". Estrella blanco amarillento.
