Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A schematic of a low-cost, do-it-yourself wind pump. The schematic was hand drawn based on an image from the video at http://www.natgeochannel.co.uk/programmes/planet-mechanics/videos/low-tech-pump. A magnification on the construction of the rotary to linear motion conversion eccentric (an alternative to a cam or crank) is available at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rotary_to_linear_motion_conversion_eccentric.JPG; the rotor blades were made from barrels (see http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Barrel_to_rotor_blades_conversion.JPG ) Note that the blades are placed at an angle of 45° to the wind. A alternative for this pump (mechanical/electrical for regions without wind, with higher flow rate is the ISF water pump, see http://www.isf-iai.be/index.php?id=43 ) The next version of the image should have the "cam" text replaced by "eccentric or crank".
