"L'œuvre appartient à la période heureuse de Cézanne. Son séjour à Auvers-sur-Oise et l'influence bénéfique de Camille Pissarro, fin pédagogue, l'ont dégagé du romantisme violent et fantasmagorique de ses œuvres de jeunesse. L’observation de la nature y est simple et directe, dépourvue de toute anecdote. Ce dépouillement, propre aux peintres impressionnistes, témoigne des influences de l’artiste : en effet, après les séjours à Pontoise et Auvers, Cézanne commence à utiliser, comme eux, des formats verticaux pour les paysages. Cette influence se manifeste aussi dans le premier plan du tableau fortement marqué par le muret et le tronc du pin qui traverse toute la hauteur de la toile." |
