Marc-André Hamelin Nederlands: We krijgen het niet over ons hart een seizoen te laten voorbijgaan zonder Marc-André Hamelin. Hij kan werkelijk álles op de vleugel. Meer zelfs: onder zijn handen komt het klavier tot leven, grijpt u bij uw nekvel en laat u niet meer los. Een recital van Hamelin blijft u uw hele leven lang bij. Hamelin is een pyrovirtuoos, jazeker, maar hij gebruikt zijn virtuositeit veel interessanter dan de meeste van zijn collega's. Als vehikel om een emotionele reis te maken naar plekken waar u het bestaan nog niet van afwist. Tijdens zijn vorig recital in deSingel leerden we Hamelin ook als componist kennen. Hij schudde een reeks duizelingwekkende etudes uit zijn mouw, geschreven om zichzelf uit te dagen. We geloofden onze oren niet. Tijdens dit concert krijgen we nog meer hardcore Hamelin te horen: zijn kersverse 'Variaties op het thema van Paganini's 24ste Capriccio'. Waarmee hij zichzelf aan het rijtje van Brahms en Rachmaninov toevoegt. Zelf noemt hij zijn 'Variaties ...' volslagen kierewiet. Veertien variaties denderen in tien minuten voorbij. Met zijn typische schalkse humor citeert Hamelin onderweg bekende klassiekers bij de vleet. Indrukwekkend én hilarisch. Fasten your seatbelts! Français : Il nous est impossible de laisser passer une saison sans accueillir Marc-André Hamelin. Il sait tout faire sur un piano à queue. Sous ses mains, le clavier devient véritablement vivant, il vous empoigne et ne vous lâche plus. Un récital d'Hamelin est une expérience dont vous vous souviendrez jusqu'à la fin de vos jours. Oui, Hamelin est un virtuose extrême, mais son exploitation de cette virtuosité est bien plus intéressante que celle de la plupart de ses collègues. Il s'en sert pour vous entraîner dans un voyage émotionnel vers des lieux dont vous ne soupçonniez pas l'existence. Lors de son dernier concert à deSingel, nous avons également pu découvrir Hamelin comme compositeur. Il nous a fait écouter une série vertigineuse d'études écrites en tant que défi personnel. Nous n'en avons pas cru nos oreilles ! Cette fois-ci, une autre de ses compositions figure au programme ; il s'agit des toutes récentes ' Variations sur le thème du Capriccio n° 24 de Paganini '. Il rejoint ainsi Brahms et Rachmaninov, auteurs de variations sur la même œuvre. Selon ses dires, ses ' Variations ' sont complètement démentes. En effet, quatorze variations passent à grand fracas en dix minutes. En chemin, Hamelin fait preuve de son humour habituel pour citer une kyrielle de grands classiques connus. C'est aussi impressionnant qu'hilarant. Attachez vos ceintures ! English: We couldn't let a season go by without Marc-André Hamelin, a complete master of the keyboard. More than that, though, he can bring it to life in playing that grabs hold of you and doesn't let go. A Hamelin recital remains with you all your life. It's true that he's a 'pyro-virtuoso', but he uses his virtuosity in much more interesting ways than his colleagues - more particularly, to take you on an emotional journey to places you never thought existed. During his previous recital at deSingel, we got to know him as a composer, though we couldn't believe what we were hearing - a dazzling series of studies pulled out of a hat and composed just as a challenge to himself. We get to hear even more 'hardcore' Hamelin at this concert, his recently composed 'Variations on the theme of Paganini's 24th Capriccio', which, in this respect, puts him in the company of Brahms and Rachmaninov. He himself calls the work completely round the bend. Fourteen variations hurtle by in the space of ten minutes. On the way, with the roguish humour typical of him, he slips in quotations galore from the well-known classics. Impressive and hilarious. Fasten your seatbelts! |
