English: Uttarakhand has a rich tradition of folk songs. The tradition of Hudkia Boll is associated with farming and collective labour. The literal meaning of “Bol” is labor, hard work. Labor with Hudka (Musical Instrument) is named as Hudkiya Bol or Hudki Bol. The tradition of Hudkiya speaking is quite old in the Kumaon region. This method is used during transplantation of paddy on irrigated land.
