Description

German infantry soldier in a photo studio in Pirna, Free State of Saxony, c. 1916. This picture is the archetype of photograph that German soldiers used to make before their first departure to the front in World War One. We also know (since this photograph comes from my collection and is not annotated) that this was his first departure to the front because of the presence of a flower bouquet, a symbol that the recruit would leave soon. Another interesting things to point out are the M1915 uniform and the strange shoulder boards which I’ve been unable to identify.
