THE FIRST SENATE CHAMBER 1800 - 1808 THIS TABLET MARKS THE LOCATION OF THE FIRST SENATE CHAMBER IN THE CAPITOL. HERE, ON NOVEMBER 21, 1800 THE SENATE MET FOR THE FIRST TIME IN WASHINGTION - FOR THE SECOND SESSION OF THE SIXTH CONGRESS, HERE, PRESIDENT JOHN ADAMS, ON NOVEMBER 22, 1800, DELIVERED HIS LAST ANNUAL MESSAGE TO BOTH HOUSES. HERE, THOMAS JEFFERSON, AFTER PRESIDING OVER THE SENATE DURING THE SESSION, TOOK OATH OF OFFICE, ON MARCH 4, 1801, FROM CHIEF JUSTICE JOHN MARSHALL, AS PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND DELIVERED HIS FIRST INAGURAL ADDRESS.

HERE, ON MARCH 4, 1805, PRESIDENT JEFFERSON DELIVERED HIS SECOND INAGURAL ADDRESS.

HERE THE SENATE CONTINUED TO MEET, PRESIDE D OVER BY VICE PRESIDENTS AARON BURR AND GEORGE CLINTON, THROUGH THE FIRST SESSION OF THE TENTH CONGRESS, ADJOURNED APRIL 25, 1808.
