Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Dolmabahçe Palace was commissioned by Sultan Abdülmecit to the famous architects of the period Garabet Amira Balyan and his son Niğogos Balyan. It was designed in a variety of European architectural styles and built between 1843 and 1855. The palace entrances balance each facade, comprising two heavily ornamented, monumental doors leading to the sea and also to the road. The Treasury Door on the sea side, faces the Dolmabahçe Mosque and the Clock Tower. It was used by the guests of the Sultan and resembles a Roman triumphal arch with its ternary structure. The door is embellished with the tughra of Sultan Abdülmecit, dated 1853, and the epigraph of the poet Ziver, dated 1857.
