Summary[edit]
DescriptionDodder and its use of haustoria.svg |
English: 1). Dodder (Cuscuta) plant
2). Potato plant 3). Dodder leaves 4). Ground Tissue 5). Phloem 6). Sugars and Nutrients 7). Epidermal Tissue 8). A haustorium of the Dodder plant growing into the phloem of the potato plant. Seen here is the use of haustoria by the parasitic plant Cuscuta, also known as Dodder. Dodder uses haustoria to take nutrients away from its host plant (in this case, the potato plant). The plant, dodder, wraps around its host plant and then grows haustoria, allowing it to penetrate the vascular system of its host plant. Dodder then removes the sugars and nutrients that the host plant converts from photosynthesis, and sends down the phloem, to use as its own food source. |
