Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Built in the 1870s on the south-east side of Denbigh by Elisha (Lesha) Mallory and powered by the waters of Hyde Creek, the Denbigh grist mill saved local farmers from having to haul wheat crops many miles away for processing. In 1897 Edward J. Petzold (who learned the miller trade in Germany) bought and operated the grist mill and upon his retirement his son, Edward William, took his place.

In the beginning, the milling season was only 6 months long so in 1901 new machinery which would extend the season to 10 months was ordered and hauled to Denbigh from the CPR station in Kaladar by teams of horses of the farmers who used the mill.
When Highway 41 opened up in the 1930s providing farmers with access to other mills, business slowed for the Denbigh mill and it closed in 1947.
