Summary[edit]
DescriptionConnection momentum angmomentum.png |
English: Geometric representation of the connection between linear momentum and angular momentum. An object in inertial motion moves along points A, B, C, D and E, covering equal distances in equal intervals of time. Point S is in inertial motion also; point S will be referred to as a 'fixed point'. The triangles ABS, BCS, etc. all have the same surface area. This implies that an object in inertial motion will sweep out equal areas in equal intervals of time. Since angular momentum is proportional to area swept out (As in Kepler's second law) it follows that angular momentum is conserved. |
