Description Left side is a 1559 engraving by en:Theodor de Bry in his series America or Americae. Right side is a 1727 reproduction by en:Philibert Bouttats. The flag has been changed from one edition to the other. Pseudohistorian Jordi Bilbeny claims that the first image bears a Catalan flag, and that Castilian censorship replaced it with a Castilian flag in later editions.
