Español: COLUMBA o la Paloma.
En la constelación austral de COLUMBA encontramos tres galaxias en espiral relevantes: NGC 2090, NGC 1808 y NGC 1792, una galaxia irregular NGC 2188 y el cúmulo globular NGC 1851. La galaxia en espiral NGC 2090, es una del tipo Sb (espiral con brazos medianamente abiertos), de tamaño de 4,5’ x 2,3’ de arco de grado, a 1º 20’ de Tsze (Lambda Columba) y a 1º 31’ de Phact (Alf a Columba). La galaxia en espiral NGC 1808, es muy bonita, del tipo SBb (espiral barrada con brazos medianamente abiertos), de tamaño de 6,5’ x 3,9’ de arco de grado y de una magnitud de +10,8. Es del tipo Seyfert por contener un núcleo pequeño y muy brillante. La galaxia en espiral NGC 1792, es una del tipo Sb (espiral con brazos medianamente abiertos), de tamaño de 4,0’ x 2,1’ de arco de grado y de una magnitud de +10,18. La galaxia 2188, es una galaxia muy peculiar e irregular, de tamaño de 3,7’ x 1,1’ de arco de grado y de una magnitud de +11,8. El cúmulo globular NGC 1851, es un hermoso enjambre de estrellas, se encuentra a 39.500 años luz del Sol, una magnitud de +7,3 y con un diámetro de 11’ de arco de grado. Desde nuestras latitudes (-37º) PHACT se la ve pasar por el meridiano del lugar (culminación superior) a una altura aproximadamente de 87º (casi sobre nuestras cabezas! Cenit = 90°) y observando hacia el horizonte Norte. Ver la tabla de la hora de paso de la estrella inserta en la imagen. Esta altura y horario es aproximado para la costa atlántica y el litoral argentino.
