Español: CANCER. El Pesebre, M44 o NGC 2632.
En la constelación zodiacal de CANCER, o del Cangrejo, se encuentra el cúmulo abierto estelar denominado M44 o de El Pesebre, del latín Praesepe. Tiene una dimensión de 95 minutos de grado y su estrella central, Epsilon Cancri (41), se encuentra a 577 años luz de distancia de nuestra estrella el Sol y con una magnitud aparente de +3,7. Es conocido también como NGC 2632, del New General Catalogue. Se lo puede resolver a simple vista en noches claras sin Luna llena y más detalles con un pequeño telescopio o binoculares. Esta rodeado por dos estrellas brillantes gama y delta Cancri, llamadas los asnitos (burritos) boreal y austral respectivamente. Este asterismo fue descripto por primera vez por Arato (S. III a. C.) y también por Eratóstenes de Cirene (S. III a. C.) en su obra “Catasterismos”. Galileo Galilei lo observó en 1610 con su telescopio resolviendo más estrellas. Charles Messier (1750) lo denominó en su catálogo de objetos difusos como M44. Desde nuestras latitudes (-37º) , M44 se lo ve pasar por el meridiano del lugar (culminación) a una altura de 32º y observando hacia el horizonte Norte. Del árabe: az-Zuban, de Zuban as-Sharatan al-Janubi, "la pinza (austral del cangrejo)". Estrella blanca. Tiene una compañera a unos 11" de separación. Alfa-2 Cancri es anaranjada. AL TARF (Beta Cancri). Del árabe: el fin. ASELLUS BOREALIS (Gama Cancri). Del latín: para "asnito boreal". Estrella blanca. ASELLUS AUSTRALIS (Delta Cancri). Del latín: para "asnito austral". Estrella de color anaranjado. TEGMENI (Zeta Cancri). Del latín. Estrella amarillenta. Zeta-2 se halla 1' al Este y 1.6" al Sur. KWAN WEI (Lambda Cancri). Del chino: el pequeño brillo.
