Summary[edit]

Description
English: Wounded Canadians returning from the Battle of Flers-Courcelette, France, 1916. Seven soldiers surround a hand-pushed platform which runs on railway lines. A wounded soldier is balanced on the front and appears to be grimacing. In the background three soldiers continue digging and the Front is visible in the distance.

This was actually the Battle of Flers-Courcelette, a subsidiary attack of the Somme Offensive, and is notable as the first battle to involve the use of tanks. The British and Canadians fought at this and sustained heavy casualties, notably Raymond Asquith, the son of the then Prime Minister, Herbert Asquith.
