Title
Iohn Bull threatened by insects from all quarters!!
Description
Satire on the Napoleonic wars. (British political cartoon); John Bull, as a sailor, sits atop a barrel of grog, brandishing a cutlass and pistol at the insects representing Britain's enemies or potential enemies, including the United States. Britain seized the Danish fleet at Copenhagen on 7 Sept., 1807. The ground beneath John Bull's feet is labelled The Tight Little Island, after the song in The British Raft of 1797-8 by Thomas John Dibdin (1771-1841). Also on the ground is a ballad sheet of Rule Britannia.; BMC states no imprint, and gives conjectural date of Oct. 1807; artist and etcher conjectured by BMC.
