he front view shows the valve sectioned as if cut down throughand on the center line, thus clearly giving an inside view of thevalve. The end view gives an outline of the valve and is in a sensea picture of the valve. The arrangement of the cross-sectionlines in the front view indicates that the sectioned metal parts ofthe valve are, with the exception of the cast-iron handwheel, brassthroughout. By means of the outline view and the section, thedraftsman has not only shown all the necessary dimensions of thevalve as an assembly but has also shown those of each detail sowell that the machinist can work it out. While it is not generalpractice in shops to have the workman work from assetnbly blue-prints, it may well be done when a shop is building a standardarticle. As there are no finish lines nor / marks, the workmanwould have to decide for himself what surfaces should be finished,if given this drawing to work from.
