Description
Français : Découvert en 1781 dans les carrières de Montmartre à Paris, en France, cet oiseau fossile, étudié depuis par de nombreux naturalistes, est connu depuis le XIXe siècle comme la Bergeronnette de Cuvier de ce fait que Georges Cuvier (1769-1832) fut le premier scientifique à l'utiliser pour attirer l'attention sur le concept d'extinction des espèces, couramment admis dans l'actualité. Il ne s'agit pas d'une vraie bergeronnette dans le sens moderne du terme, il s'agit d'un oiseau très difficile à classer, appartenant probablement à une famille entièrement disparue, les Sylphornithidae.
