Summary[edit]

Description
English: Two dead soldiers on the battlefield during World War I. In this rather harrowing image we can see two dead soldiers, in uniform, lying on their backs in the foreground, with a third just visible in the distance. Flies crawl all over the bodies. The soldier nearest us has his arms above his head and his face is just visible. The battlefield is an open expanse of pitted dirt, with no plant life visible.

It is unclear which side these soldiers fought on but we do know that the picture was taken, most likely, by a Canadian photographer. It is unlikely that this image would have been published for public consumption, as it does not fit with the upbeat propaganda message the Allies were trying to convey.
