The result ofthese examinations is combined with the marks given forthe daily class-work and the tests, and both together formthe report of the student, which we send to the parents orguardians. In case that a student, through his negligence, has beenabsent from one-third of all the recitations, he will not bepermitted to take the examinations, and he will be consid-ered as having failed. If a student has taken the examina-tions, but has failed in one or several of the branches he maytry the examination again within two weeks; if he fails inthe final examinations, he may study during the summerand take the same examination at the opening of the nextschool-year; a student who purposely neglects or refuses totake the examinations, will be regarded as having failed; astudent who is lawfully prevented from appearing for theexaminations, must take them at the professors earliest con-venience; should he then refuse to do so, we shall regardhim as having failed. 24

DEGREES. The degree of BACHELOR OF ARTS or BACHELOROF SCIENCE is conferred on a student who gave evidenceof his sufficient knowledge of the various studies prescribedin the respective course, and passed satisfactory examina-tions. The aspirant is required to write an essay, a copyof which will be kept in the college archives. The degree of MASTER OF ARTS will be granted tonone save Bachelors of Arts, and that of MASTER OFSCIENCE to none save Bachelors of Science. Three yearsof further study in a professional, literary, or scientificcourse, to be approved by the Faculty, are required for thisdiploma. The aspirants are required to submit a thesis,which is to be preserved in the archives of the college.Applications for the A. M. should be made before April 1. After a student has completed the work of our three yearsCOMMERCIAL COURSE, and has passed satisfactory ex-aminations in Bookkeeping, Commercial Law, Mathematics,English and History, and has shown his proficiency inShorthand, Typewr
